Will wait to see if he does end up training this week with them but..
- He could be home sick, people said that the day he signed up with us.
- Club doesn't want to take the chance with his injury just yet while it looks like he's willing to take the chance?
- IF he is a bulldog he would be willing to stick it out no matter what.
I guess we need to look at this from Oloapu's perspective.
He comes here at 18 ... Homesick for sure.
But if you're playing A grade footy and realising your NRL dream ...then that negates much of that homesickness (or at least puts it in perspective).
So you're in a shit bulldogs team - but you wanna make a difference. And you've made an encouraging start.
Then you discover you have a genetic frailty that is life changing-ly serious. Possibility of severing your spinal cord has risen exponentially.
You get the op (successful), but you have to sit out of footy for a whole year in a new city. Still only a baby at 19.
There is no guarantee that you'll be able to play NRL again & if you do - there's always that ticking time bomb in your neck.
Homesickness, self-doubt, anxiety, depression - all these feelings are likely to be through the roof, I'd imagine.
I fully understand why he'd wanna be back home with family and friends.
As unfortunate as this has been for us at Canterbury, I think our duty of care and support for the family have been exceptional.
THIS is the kind of club people WILL want to come and play for.
A club that cares about it's players and families, but also a club that won't tolerate illegal and deceptive behaviour.
Well done Gus, CC and the full CB hierarchy.
It feels like Canterbury Bankstown is becoming "the family club" again.
All the best to KO ... I hope he stays safe and healthy.
If he does play footy again, hopefully he enjoys his time on the field and gets back to playing his very best footy.
