Karl Oloapu

If we are getting nothing we have been cucked here
If another club wants him despite his injury then as B Train says we should be compensated.
We've been cucked in this field all the way back to selling Ben Hannant for tickets to the Suncorp.

I think Gus' mantra the whole time has been anyone that doesn't want to be here or gets a better offer is allowed to leave. So at least he's been consistent with that.

The problem is the other 16 clubs don't have that same mentality and are more petty and cut-throat. Also as you pointed out we've gotten fuck all in these situations dating back to the past two decades.

Even when it came to Tracey, we had to give the Sharks a promising youngster in Michael Gabrael. If the Dolphins want Oloapu, give us a promising youngster in return like we had to with Cronulla.

Will wait to see if he does end up training this week with them but..

- He could be home sick, people said that the day he signed up with us.
- Club doesn't want to take the chance with his injury just yet while it looks like he's willing to take the chance?
- IF he is a bulldog he would be willing to stick it out no matter what.

I guess we need to look at this from Oloapu's perspective.

He comes here at 18 ... Homesick for sure.
But if you're playing A grade footy and realising your NRL dream ...then that negates much of that homesickness (or at least puts it in perspective).
So you're in a shit bulldogs team - but you wanna make a difference. And you've made an encouraging start.

Then you discover you have a genetic frailty that is life changing-ly serious. Possibility of severing your spinal cord has risen exponentially.
You get the op (successful), but you have to sit out of footy for a whole year in a new city. Still only a baby at 19.
There is no guarantee that you'll be able to play NRL again & if you do - there's always that ticking time bomb in your neck.
Homesickness, self-doubt, anxiety, depression - all these feelings are likely to be through the roof, I'd imagine.

I fully understand why he'd wanna be back home with family and friends.

As unfortunate as this has been for us at Canterbury, I think our duty of care and support for the family have been exceptional.
THIS is the kind of club people WILL want to come and play for.
A club that cares about it's players and families, but also a club that won't tolerate illegal and deceptive behaviour.

Well done Gus, CC and the full CB hierarchy.
It feels like Canterbury Bankstown is becoming "the family club" again.

All the best to KO ... I hope he stays safe and healthy.
If he does play footy again, hopefully he enjoys his time on the field and gets back to playing his very best footy.

A sad story for Oloapu. But if what reading is true re genetic problem and high risk of re injury then this probably for the best. The club did their best by the kid and have allowed him to go back home quietly. Good quiet business. Gus is good at quiet low drama work.
I find so many of these young footballers struggle with life away from home base irrespective of the impact on their employability. I spent years being expatriated domestically/ internationally in jobs away from home base in Sydney, towing my family around with me in order to develop my career & take advantage of job openings & improved salary & conditions. This went with the job & lifestyle I chose. So many of these young boys show no maturity & can barely move for only 8-10 years (while their employability/value is highest) out of their suburban region let alone interstate & scuttle of home first chance. Suggest IF this is the case with Oloapu, then he is best to leave.

The fee has never been released. The 500k was what the broncos reportedly wanted not necessarily what was paid.

Wish KO all the best if it's with us or with another club. Tough run of luck for both him and the club.

A receipt.
Indeed. I doubt we paid a cent.

Our good deed was to allow the Broncos to save face with the "$500k transfer fee story". In return we were allowed to acquire Oloapu early.

Looks like it might not have worked out, but not the first promising youngster to have not quite made it.

So, he gets another shot (maybe) up North, and we re-focus on the next one with potential and hope for better results.

Our roster has not improved, and we will no longer surprise clubs. We will drop to 6-10
Very negative.
Looking at it realistically when you look at the players we haved moved on for whatever reason and 6 names come
to mind who will be thereabouts at the start, Fifita, Tuala, Todd, Montoya, Tupouniua, and Amone I would call that an
improvement. Combined with the fact that we have had an over achieved year that most did not think we were capable of.
Last years season of getting to know the system, plays etc holds us in good stead as well.

A fee was paid. Not $500k.

That was placed on him, from going to the Phins, his preferred club.

Phins wanted him to be the 'face' of the club for junior rugby league, as he played junior rugby league for the Redcliffe Dolphins.

So much hope and excitement gone. Not just with KO coming and going with barely playing, but the Seve brothers, Papali’i and others. Several players that I was looking forward to watching over the next few years, now gone. It sucks.

To be honest, this is how I'm starting to feel.

We've now let go some guys with amazing potential and it's hard not feel like this is the mid-2000s again. We could have had a 2000s dynasty if we kept players like Thurston and Asotasi (instead of those we prioritised who ultimately left anyway). Half a decade later we watched Ben Hannant tear it up for Brisbane and ultimately win a comp with the Cowboys in 2015; and the following year watched Ennis and Barba win a comp with Cronulla. We then decided to let Graham (who was the heart of our team) go for a series of bad forwards.

I know it's a different administration in place, and so I'm trying to be hopeful but at the moment I'm feeling a little concerned and have now lost the optimism that I had at the end of last season or even when Thompson signed.

Thurston and Asotasi were first grade quality players when they left - players like Samrani, Joash P Seve bros have yet to play fg Kitione K n Oloapu handful of fg between them - all may be stars or may never play fg at new clubs

Would it be fair to say your trust in Gus gas waned a bit or a lot? Seems so but for how long exactly I'm not sure.

Papa regressed I think so no loss and it was mentioned the two brothers had a serious attitude problem.Plus it's not like they were on the cusp of super stardom they had potential but allegedly didn't fit the Bulldogs mould.so out they go.

Relax bruz all will be ok.

Danny Gabriel is way better.. So we won this trade by a mile...

Good luck to KO, if the report is correct, which seems likely.
Although we tend to focus on how half-backs and quality front rowers are hard to find, players with the potential Oloapu had at number 13 are pretty rare as well.
A long term replacement for Mann is going to be that little bit harder now.

I have been saying on here for a while now, Presto should be our 13.. Yeo type ability.. similar body shape.. Sitili is an edge not a middle..
otherwise maybe Underhill is another option at 13...
I think Damon Marshall (if he's still at the club is too small for NRL).. shame but hes a morrin type only smaller

Todd will be our next lock once mann finishes up

Of course we did but my point was that they wanted some form of compensation and got it. The Titans won't let Pahulu go before 26. It's fine for Oloapu to leave, and not the end of the world if we don't get compensation. But it's annoying when other clubs demand it from us but we don't get anything in return when we let players leave.
