Karl Oloapu

Gus isn’t going to feed the narrative, either he’s recovering with us or he’s training at the fins.

I read an article today saying Oloapu has already moved back to Redcliffe.

Can anyone confirm he's no longer training with us ?

They are not twins?

I wouldn't know. Just did a quick google search and couldn't find it mentioned. Sends me to Michael and Gabriel the twin angels.

If Gabriel brothers are twins, they're not famous enough yet in NRL terms for it to have caused either of them to be mentioned in the results of a quick search.

Typical Gould response doesn’t confirm or deny. If he wanted to put an end to it would have stated both club and KO are happy and working thru rehab and committed to a future together.
Yep likely playing ducks and drakes on this Gus, just fess up ya cagey old bugger lol

nah the one with us Danny is 21 Michael is 19

I think Gus' mantra the whole time has been anyone that doesn't want to be here or gets a better offer is allowed to leave. So at least he's been consistent with that.

The problem is the other 16 clubs don't have that same mentality and are more petty and cut-throat. Also as you pointed out we've gotten fuck all in these situations dating back to the past two decades.

Even when it came to Tracey, we had to give the Sharks a promising youngster in Michael Gabrael. If the Dolphins want Oloapu, give us a promising youngster in return like we had to with Cronulla.
We really could have used him as leverage, injury or no injury, the guy is clearly ready to give it a crack. He has word from A doctor and going to play, it's obvious. Whether he will get back to standard (and improve) is another story. But the fact is, and it's proven now that he's back training , he's a wanted player/half.
It's done and gone, we learn and move on.

To be honest, this is how I'm starting to feel.

We've now let go some guys with amazing potential and it's hard not feel like this is the mid-2000s again. We could have had a 2000s dynasty if we kept players like Thurston and Asotasi (instead of those we prioritised who ultimately left anyway). Half a decade later we watched Ben Hannant tear it up for Brisbane and ultimately win a comp with the Cowboys in 2015; and the following year watched Ennis and Barba win a comp with Cronulla. We then decided to let Graham (who was the heart of our team) go for a series of bad forwards.

I know it's a different administration in place, and so I'm trying to be hopeful but at the moment I'm feeling a little concerned and have now lost the optimism that I had at the end of last season or even when Thompson signed.

I hear ya ...& I'm feeling it too.
Papalii, KO, Seve brothers, Samrani, Clark (questionable that we let gun juniors go)??

Ad then there's
Fox, Perham, KK.... ???
Tough to let them go??

then the ones we agree that we should have let go - Knight, Patolo, Poasa, Tetevano -which we have - Hallelujah

Then peace.

Perham … he belongs in the list down the bottom…

Would it be fair to say your trust in Gus gas waned a bit or a lot? Seems so but for how long exactly I'm not sure.

Papa regressed I think so no loss and it was mentioned the two brothers had a serious attitude problem.Plus it's not like they were on the cusp of super stardom they had potential but allegedly didn't fit the Bulldogs mould.so out they go.

Relax bruz all will be ok.
well as @B-Train mentioned, Gus has his ways. Besides other things like the mantra mentioned, he chops and changes while keeping some stability and takes care of other things, like bringing fresh faces and experience, value, various characters. He mentions himself he even makes mistakes, misses or oversees some players but it's great we have systems, a pretty effective and efficient administration, thirst to keep improving while having a long term vision in place, and values. It over rules. We're still marching on as a club which is great.

In hindsight, it's actually interesting Bulldogs signed KO at the time, we got the job done, good on Gus and the Bulldogs really.

I like Karl Stefnovic he is a funny c@nt.
Oloapooass dont give a rats arse.

Teenage sensation Karl Oloapu has recovered from a career-threatening neck injury and is set to quit the Canterbury Bulldogs to join the Dolphins.

For the 19-year-old pivot, it will be an emotional return to his home town after a turbulent past couple of years.

Oloapu was signed by the Broncos as a 13-year-old from Redcliffe and went on to captain the Australian Schoolboys in 2022.

But the following year he had a massive fallout with the Broncos, declaring "I will never play for Brisbane as long as I live" and requesting a release.

After a stalemate for several weeks that saw the Players Association step in to mediate, he was granted the release and signed with the Bulldogs, making his NRL debut in 2023 and playing seven games.

Oloapu looked a player of promise but tragedy struck at the end of the season when he suffered a bulging disc in his neck.

There were fears his playing days were over but he underwent delicate surgery and after a long and slow recovery, is confident he can resume playing again after sitting out the entire 2024 season.

The Dolphins showed interest in the youngster and the two are set to come to terms on a long-term deal in coming days.

Oloapu has already moved back to Redcliffe and will start training with his new club this week.

Either way I think it would have been hard for Karl living down here and not being able to play an on field part of the strong season we had last year. Being at home rehabbing is probably best for him.

Honestly wouldn’t be surprised if he’s with the phins for 25 as a loan.

I understand the homesickness with what he’s gone through the past 18 months but let’s not forget this is a 19/20 year old that has yet to stick out a contract. Once purely over a club thinking he was better suited to another position much the same as Gus does and a chicken sandwich.

Disagree.. .all the above are either average or had attitude problems or plateaued and needed a change. The following are (flegg) guns we have kept:
- Danny Gabriel
- William Afualo
- Underhill
- Cassius Tia
- J. Sua
- Reuben Moyle (he's a gun with great speed out of Dummy half)

Wondering if Larry Muagututia is still at Dogs? a young, big, mobile middle with some promise..
