It would be interesting to see what the thought process is with Hayes missing out for Salmon.

I’ve got no doubt given the opportunity Hayes could tackle like Salmon in the middle for 20-30 mins to start a game.

I think it’s simply a case of Salmon being far more experienced. Same reason Curran goes straight in after his suspension. I’d actually pick Hayes over him but I bet few others would.

People going off about the team for a single game are overreacting. It’s a long season and 25 or so players will play their part. It’s round 2 vs Floppy tits, relax.

Ciro has years of history with Salmon and he obviously trusts him, so it’s not a surprise he picks him. As for Hayward, I’ e said Mann can cover Reed if he copped a cat 1 head knock etc, but I suppose he wants extra insurance. Eventually I would like to see Tia take his spot as I think he has a similar skillset but is more dangerous with the ball.

Wouldnt Hayes and Sitilli be better options to replace Kiks than Salmon?
I’m trying to find reasons

sitili/curran is our next best option but it depends on who replaces them on the bench. Sitili through the middle is probably too valuable whereas the drop off from Curran to Hayes off the bench is negligible tbh

Cant believe gotta wait all weekend for the game. Im more confident then last week. Settled side, no forced changes. Titans first run disruptive prep. Tino first game in god knows. Titans round 4 onwards different story

Its simple he starts at lock takes some of the sting out of the game then sitilli/mann come on and do their thing, Thats what happened v dragons resulted in 4 quick trys.
I agree after last week no way u change starting side. We were up against it for large periods, couple bad ref calls penalties etc and we held it to a try each.

Post of the day

Except Hayes is not a prop!!
Not really.
He's originally an outside back (winger) who made the transition to second row.
And he is an outstanding edge player. Good hole runner, serious speed & raw boned strength. He's a gem!!

But he's not really a ball player. (Not the way Todd & Mann do).
Even Salmon and Hayward play shape ok - although neither of them challenge the line enough.

So Harry has filled a need in the team to play prop.
Told me (up in Bundy last year) that he loved rucking it up.

But somehow, I feel we're wasting his talents in the middle and he should be hitting holes a couple out from the ruck.

Point being ... he is then in competition with Kiks, Presto and Sitili. (Tough copy).

So ....being a middle/prop maybe a good career move for him in the short term.

Either way - Harry is a beauty

A lot of guys not happy with Salmon playing instead of Hayes. I think the logic behind it is not to burn Hayes out in his early years of his career with gruelling NRL footy week in week out. Hayes will get his time as a regular NRL player and to nurture him and take time developing his craft can't be rushed. We need patience sometimes and not expect big things too soon, although he does carry his weight but to sustain that for 28+ rounds on a consistent level is asking a lot from a young upcoming kid that has all his career ahead of him. The NRL can be cruel sometimes and can sap your confidence very quickly so being patient with his development is critical for the better for him and the club. Just my opinion.

Only the facts here and am not pro Salmon either btw.

Hayes only played because Curran was suspended, Curran back in so Hayes unfortunately misses out.

Purely for discussion purposes would coaching NSW Cup or being an assistant for Jersey Flegg count as knowing the game? Or must you be one of the 300 men who have coached NRL? Thats the vibe I get from the last 4 pages

Haywards selection in the 17 makes sense if he rotates with Mahoney and spends decent minutes at 9 but he sucks arse as ciraldos preferred ploy as a middle forward/lock.
