Potter is the best person to be the interim coach as he has experience and is a steadying influence after a season and a half of turmoil under Baz.. But he's not interested in being the head coach and we need a long term option.. Hopefully he can stay on as an assistant or Reserves coach..
Did you see the post game interview ? Potter seems interested just wanted to take it slowly before making a decision. Maybe it will be too late by then

Just give it up Gus and confirm the coach already so we can like it or lump it and move on. We need to know so we can settle into what’s coming in 23, bit of stability to end 22!!

We have to see how things go over the next few months but I’m sure Potter would consider the job. He’s just smart enough to say he’s not to deflect pressure off himself and the team.

There’s no need to do what Flanno or Noddy did recently and beg thru the media to be considered.

Phil Gould should call off the search - the Bulldogs have found their new head coach, writes PAUL CRAWLEY.

Phil Gould should call off the search. The Bulldogs have found their new head coach. All they have to do is give Mick Potter the job.

Stop wasting more time searching for a better solution.

Potter ticks every box.

He has the Dogs’ DNA. A two-time premiership winning player and a champion of his era.

He already has Gould’s respect because Gus appointed him as interim coach after Trent Barrett was punted.

And he can obviously coach.
That performance against Parramatta was the best the Dogs have played in years.

Every week this squad has played under Potter you could see subtle changes being made but until now it just hasn’t clicked.

But that 34-4 spanking of the Eels was the culmination of all the work that has gone into making these players not only take accountability but to start believing in themselves again.

Matt Burton and Josh Addo-Carr were tremendous. Tevita Pangai was enormous. It was Potter’s call to move Jake Averillo to fullback. Kyle Flanagan suddenly looked a footballer again. Jacob Kiraz. Max King. You could name the lot of them.

Potter is one of the most humble men you will ever meet but he is no mug.

And he would have learnt a hell of a lot about the politics of the game from his time at the Tigers, where he walked into a hornet’s nest and got blamed for a series of disasters not of his making. That was not his fault as you’ve seen with the coaches that have come and went since.

But he’s had seven years to mull over what he could himself do differently, and when Gus came knocking it gave him the opportunity to put that into practice.

Gould has said previously this is not the job for an inexperienced coach.

And for all the hype about Cameron Ciraldo and his obvious talent, it would still be a huge gamble for him and the Dogs to make this his first head coaching gig.

But Potter would fit like a glove.

The only thing he doesn’t do is talk himself up.

But that win over Parra just did it for him.

He must get a lot of credit for our teams preformance, it was a coaching master piece . However a bit premature to appoint him now IMO,

Potter is a good interim option, but he's not going to be attracting talent to the club
don't need him to, the opportunity to play along side players we've got like fox, kiks etc as well as gus running the club should be enough to attract talent. if we can continue to get results, why wouldnt someone want to come and play under potter?

Paul Crawley is setting up Phil Gould and the Club for a sucker punch here….he knows Gould has already landed his man whoever that may be. Now he’s trying to put pressure on the the club maintaining the interim coach - the entire time since the Roosters game, Gould has validating TBaz was not capable by stepping in and reversing their fortunes against the Chooks followed by cutting TBaz loose and seeing Potter, a coach of our Mounties team, triple the offensive potency almost instantly and now notching up a big win versus a legit title contender.

Potter himself said that being head coach is an enormous job, at the end of the day, he’s filling in for someone with the energy and patience a head coaching role requires

I haven' seen a bulldogs side turn up to play for each other like that in longer than I care to remember, they NEVER played like that for Hasler,Pay or Tbag. There has been signs of life since potter took over and the players have bought in to what he's doing, Thankfully flange snr isn't happening and of the remaining candidates Mick is the best option IMO, As for him not wanting the job, winning and the head coaches pay cheque will ease the pain.

Sorry but 2 intercept tries, 2 off kicks, 1 from the Tballz playbook and 1 when the match was won is hardly anything to crow about. YES we outplayed the Eels but there needs to be more in my opinion so shut up Crawley!
Those have been the same type of tries that have been beating us for the past five years.

It's about time we learned to score off them as well.

The intercepts were due to the Dogs pushing up in defence, and forcing them to make risky passes. The tries from kicks were due to players reading the game, and seeing where there were gaps to take advantage of.

Those are the sort of tries we see Panthers and Storm score every game.

They did win well, however there was a lot of good luck (intercepts) and great kick results (which can always go 50-50). The biggest highlight was effort in defence and fair refereeing. It was not outstanding coaching. The Journo is a knob.

Watching his presser last night, it seemed as if Potter was talking himself into the role.

He ticks all the boxes... except 1 - he doesn't want the job!
well he didn't rule it out in the press conference yesterday... in the first one he had he said he was glad its an interim role as he doesn't want the gig full time but yesterday his tune had changed.. i think if we can keep winning, he'll want to continue on. whether or not the club wants to keep him on is another thing though. i would much rather a bulldogs premiership winner and dally m medallist coach us instead of a roosters 'legend' who's unable to get the star studded nsw side firing

While we had a better share of the possession, that was down to Parramatta errors, not fair refereeing.

the penalty count was in their favour something like 12-4, and they had the better of the repeat sets. We rarely had back to back sets, but had to defend multiple sets on our line.

We had a try called back for a forward pass, then the Eels were allowed at least three blatant forward passes afterward.

Burton was penalised for stripping the ball after the ref called held. Ten minutes later, a Parramatta player stripped the ball after the ref called held, and was asked to come back and hand over the ball. No penalty.

The ten metres was absent when they were holding us on our line.

We didn't get a single penalty or repeat set in the entire second half.

I don’t understand what you’re trying to say here, other than for everyone to cool their jets after one great win (which I agree with).

But let’s break down those tries because it really irks me when intercepts and tries off kicks are somehow seen as inferior:
- Intercept tries need a poor pass from the opposition yes, but they also need the intuition to see it coming, the skill to catch it and the pace to outrun the defence over a long distance. Averillo’s was one of the best you’ll ever see.
- Tries off kicks do tend to be a bit boring these days (kick to a corner where the attack has all the momentum) but our three yesterday were not that: Burton overhead to JAC in space was basically a three man cut-out pass at speed; Burton grubber to JAC was perfectly placed to get JAC around the defence; and Burton to Averillo was just the last play of one of the best attacking sequences we’ve put together in years.
- How is a try when the result is locked in any less impressive than any of the others? If anything it shows we were still hungry and looking to put them to the sword which the best teams do every chance they get.

It’s fine to be cautious but to say yesterday wasn’t anything to crow about is missing the point in my opinion.

From the very first game that Potter took over our attack has been twice as good. Under Baz we were averaging around 12 points and rarely if ever scored above 16. Baz had the dogs muzzled trying to play a certain way. Potter removed the shackles and we are seeing a free flowing style of footie with sweeping plays from left to right and players standing deeper in attack and taking the ball to the line. Under Potter it’s only 3 games in but in those games we are averaging around 26 points a game in attack. Most importantly defence is getting better too.
Great post, Barretts big mistake was in trying to have us play to much like Penrith, actually (not that I like him) Paul Kent said on NRL360 only a few weeks ago that clubs trying to imitate Penrith or the Storm, will only always be a poor imitation of them.

No profile as a coach, no connections in rep teams, no proven history as a winner as a coach. His biggest claim to fame (as a coach) is yesterday's game.

The team played well, I don't want it to sound like I'm throwing shit on Mick but it doesn't take a genius to tell this particular squad to forget some of the structures Barrett had them playing.
