to play 3 different sports within a year and to reach the highest achievements in those sports. C'mon you gotta admire the C_NT, whether you hate him or love him.

His doing it for a good cause. End of story
The Bus Drivers?

3 sports within a year? LOL When was the last time he played RL

He did win a premiership in RL but he didn't do much with the kiwis. Kiwis were champions when sonny wasn't there. That in 0/1 so far
Boxing? lol highest achievements? are you kidding? 0 from 2
Rugby? Not sure. Don't follow the sport. I'm sure he'll play for the all blacks. We'll call that 1/3

I do not admire people like SBW. I admire people like Hazem El Masri, Paul Scholes, Zinedine Zidane, Larry Bird, Kosta Tszyu etc

**** some people are dumb. SBW is doing this for charity. It's not a title fight. He can verse a woman if he wants, who cares. Should he fight a top fighter and get hammered or be pushed to the brink just for charity? He isn't even a boxer.

It's annoying when people marvel at his ability in 3 sports. Great league player, possibly great rugby player. And the greatest boxer of forklift drivers in the world.

LOL!

This fella who Team Mundine have likened to Ali.
Seriously??? Wow!

Good on him for giving the money to the earthquake appeal, but I'm sure if he fought someone more notable, or even another high profile sports star like a League or Union player, he would have more credibility on two counts- he raised money for charity, and has not gone down the same path as Mundine by fighting pensioners and losing credibilty when he wants to be taken seriously. Despite donating his purse from the fight, his next fight will attract less people after he demolishes Pops 50 seconds in.

What ever happened to that bouncer bloke who wanted to fight him? I think he was involved in UFC?

people are forgetting, its only months before the World Cup. As if NZRU will allow him to take on someone credible in the chance he will get injured. No make mistake, SBW is fast becoming the best union player going around. Its going to be freaky if he does become the best. He would be the first person in history to be the best at one stage in these 2 codes.

Even then, he has never seriously said he wants to take Boxing seriously. It's a side thing, like the Mason saga. Maybe after Union he will take it more seriously. But atm its Mundine doing the trash talk and SBW staying silent. Nothing wrong with that

Lol @ the hate in this thread, specially from doga. Man let the past go, 2008 was a long time ago.

Look, we are all pissed the greatest league player of our generation and arguably the greatest player in history to pull on a dogs jersey left us, but life goes on.

It takes a lot to excel in three different sports and many are already comparing sbw to muhammad ali so there is no doubt he will be a future champion.

Would've probably been Cruzaders 13+ anyway I reckon. Wouldn't mind the Sharks winning though.

I'm more interested in the winner of the Blues Waratahs game tomorrow as they will play the Reds the following week at Suncorp which I will be attending.

All Blacks sensation Sonny Bill Williams is considering leaving the Crusaders due to the earthquakes that have rocked the Super Rugby team's home city Christchurch, reports said on Friday.

Williams told the Christchurch Press that the quakes, including a devastating tremor in February that killed 181 people, had taken their toll during his first season with the Crusaders.

"I have loved my time down here but I won't lie, it has been pretty difficult with the earthquakes and moving around," Williams told the newspaper.

"But I am fortunate I am still here. I don't have much family down here and there are a lot of people worse off than me."

The seven-times champion Crusaders have been unable to play at their home ground in Christchurch this season because it was damaged in February's earthquake.

Williams' contract with the New Zealand Rugby Union expires after the World Cup and the 25-year-old said he had not yet decided where he would play next year.

"I'm not sure," he told the Christchurch Press.

"I want to try and make my mind up, hopefully if I make the All Blacks squad, probably after the Super 15 season, when I can really sit down and have a good time to assess everything and weigh up all my options."

The newspaper reported that there was speculation Williams could move to the rivals the Blues or the Chiefs to be closer to his mother in the North island.

Rugby union and league clubs from around the world are also reportedly chasing Williams' signature, although his Australia-based manager Khoder Nasser said last month that the NZRU was in the box seat to re-sign him.

An NZRU contract would not necessarily bind Williams to the Crusaders, giving him scope to move to another New Zealand Super team while remaining eligible for All Blacks' selection.

sonny bill should give up boxing cause he gases out pretty easily and ends up pulling off a boring decision.

Uh-Oh lol..

OPINION: All Blacks fans mightn't get to see too much of Sonny Bill Williams at the Rugby World Cup.

The latest selection to play the Wallabies in the Tri Nations finale in Brisbane on Saturday night is another pointer to that.

This isn't quite the All Blacks' top side but it's pretty close to it.

Halfback Jimmy Cowan and top-rated No 6 Jerome Kaino get a bit of a breather after handling senior duties against South Africa last weekend and utility Israel Dagg won't be backing up either after his sensational return to test rugby after more than a year out.

But there's no room for Williams in the 22 to play Australia in a match that will decide the Tri Nations title and provide both teams to stamp their authority on the eve of the World Cup.

And that could be a sign of the future.

Williams has drifted well behind Ma'a Nonu in the pecking order for the No.12 jersey now and if he can't get a start, there just doesn't appear to be the room for him on the bench.

Halfback and first-five cover is required, leaving just one other berth for a back. Williams doesn't offer anything other than his game at second-five and is, as yet, an unproven talent at centre in test rugby.

The All Blacks have signalled their preferences in the World Cup squad and it's all about versatility, particularly for backs beyond No.12.

That's why specialist wings Sitiveni Sivivatu and Hosea Gear were jettisoned.

That's why Isaia Toeava sits on the bench in Brizzy.

That's why the likes of Dagg and Cory Jane will be preferred to Williams for a bench role.

That's why he might even be pressed to get past Richard Kahui for a spot on the pine, given that the big Waikato player can cover both midfield position but is also a proven talent as an international wing and would have a crack at fullback in an emergency.

It's a tough time for Williams.

He will be stoked that he has achieved his prime goal of making the Rugby World Cup squad. But getting much action, particularly at the business end of the tournament, might be a very tough assignment for him.

Williams had a solid effort against the Springboks in Port Elizabeth in his first start of the year last weekend. He was highly effective in defence in a bruising midfield encounter where he put in some big hits. There were a couple of glimpses of his offloading skills but it wasn't a startling attacking performance from him.

Nonu's attack is more direct and, for the moment, more effective in getting across the gain line.

There has been a lot of talk by various people about how Williams' form has gone stale since he put his boxing gloves on in mid-season for the Crusaders.

It was a point even acknowledged by the All Blacks selectors last week.

No one denies Williams has some special qualities. Quite how he gets his spark back now the World Cup is upon us will be interesting.

Will he use his time on the sidelines to be motivated to really put some big heat on Nonu?

It's easy to see Williams terrorising Japan in Hamilton and there's a good bet he might be used in the final pool match against Canada to ensure Nonu gets a rest before the quarter-finals.

But from there on, Williams might find himself like the rest of us - watching the Rugby World Cup.

Keep in mind he's fasting for Ramadan so as much as he tried, he wouldn't have performed at 100% against the Springboks.

The article seems critical, but you have to remember that playing in the World Cup was a pretty big goal to set considering he is so new to the sport. Can't fault him for trying.
