I’ve had a theory before the season started, and it’s that Jake is in there to take the pressure off Flanagan, and allow Flanagan time to build his confidence in reserves. I think the plan has always been to bring Flanagan in a bit later. I think it’s Gus’s plan.

To get the best out of Jake I think Barrett needs to put him in a position that matches his skill set and natural style of playing. Probably that would be at centre, or 14. It’s too much pressure on Averillo to make him organise and control the team
