People seem to have missed this sentence...

The value of the remainder of his contact is $1.5 million which Inglis will reportedly sacrifice so as not to disadvantage the Rabbitohs’ going forward.

This means he is NOT going to pocket that money, he is giving it up so Souths can signed some other players. The difference between this and Foran is that Foran is STILL contract to us, and STILL getting paid by us. Inglis is NOT getting paid by Souths anymore.

Try to be unbiased.

As I said in the other thread, why did Pascoe get suspended as CEO of the Tigers and they got a huge cap penalty for giving Farah an ambassadorial role when Souths doing this for Inglis is supposedly okay?

No because he won't have a job or income if he retires. But if the dogs offer him $200k to work within the club it free's up cap space for us approx. $800k

If a player is happy with a couple hundred thousand then he might he enticed to retire. Win for both parties
Only Greg Inglis is dumb enough to accept a 1.5m pay cut

the point is :
we dodged the spoon last year when we were close to getting one due to salaray cap issues
we are hot favorites to win this year due to salary cap issues
we are also favorites to win next year as well due to salary cap issues.
Had we cheated the cap the maximum pain we (US FANS AND MEMBERS) get is for one year, we get ONE wooden spoon not two or three.
this is why i call our club dumb as bat shit cos they dont have the smarts to come out of this mess like Eels have done and like other clubs are doing. Again no club has suffered for 3 consecutive years of having no money to spend on players in the history of league. It would have been so much easier to cheat the cap , cop the spoon and move on.
I see it exactly the reverse, despite overcoming outrageous salary cap issues last year, shedding our top players, experiencing some season ending injuries, with only a make shift team, we didn't win the spoon, despite being odds on favourites.
This year is yet to unfold, so whether we are favourites or not is irrelevant. FWIW the very same guys who pick us to get the spoon also pick the Titans and Cowboys as potential Grand Finalists, not exactly a good track record so far. Next year is even further away, who knows what will unfold.

In summary we spent money this year, still have some left, and have a decent budget available for next year, so your claim of "3 consecutive years of having no money to spend" is factually inaccurate.

I also don't agree with your summation of the salary cap cheating recovery process, for example Melbourne cheated the cap starting in 2006 and didn't win another premiership until 2012, that's 6 years. In regards to Parramatta, they cheated the cap in 2015, had points stripped in 2016, went OK in 2017 but duly won the spoon in 2018. I could relate similar stories of the number of years required to recover from salary cap breaches for StG, Wests, Broncos etc. they all took multiple years to come back after a breach.

The NRL requirement for directors to sign statutory declarations pledging their player contracts comply with the salary cap means that they have the power to deregister a club's directors, players and anyone else involved. Plus being a legal document, criminal proceedings are possible for those involved in the breach. Personally I don't think it would be very smart for anyone involved to cheat the cap.

Problem is though the nrl wouldn't have been as lenient to us like they were to Parra and Sharks... we know we are unfairly treated

with greenbergs letter of recommendation for inglis, and now this i think its time for an independent investigation into todd greenberg peter beatie and how the nrl is conducting business, highly likely no other player of club would get this preferential treatment, nor have a bogus jobs wages topped up saying hes a role model to the youth coming through

Ehh

They are going to be paying a women bashing drink driver to be an ambassador on a reported 300k a year.

Plus whatever Rusty and co. throw at him in brown paper bags.

A guaranteed post footy job so that a player will sacrifice some or all of his salary is going against the ethicacy of the salary cap.

If we told Foran he has a job as a internal anti fraud betting auditor if he retires I'm pretty sure the rest of the competition would be thinking we are having a laugh and the NRL would respond accordingly with heavy penalties and sanctions.

What's to stop any club from offering a franchise player a post football role at their club to secure their signature and get them on the cheap?

The problem isn’t that he’s sacrificing the money, because he probably isn’t. It’s now a possible loophole:

1. Player retires, “sacrificing” their pay to free up the cap.
2. Player gets a job with the club, paying a large amount over several years.

The club can offer a high paying job to entice the player to retire and sacrifice his pay from the cap, but the player is still getting paid by the club.

It’s like us telling Foran if he retires and gives up his cap pay, we’ll give him a $500k a year job to make up for the money that would have been in the cap.

Foran has not expressed any desire or willingness to retire, no real evidence of anti bulldogs conspiracy or club stupidity here.

This is dodgy as fuck. We need to do the same thing with Foran...make him assistant coach.

We’ve got to start to bend and exploit the rules, I know I’ve said this in another thread but we’ve forgotten how to cook the books. C’mon tell me all the best sides aren’t doing it, the Roosters could field 2 first grade sides at the moment....cheating pays

Look how rich cheating athletes are...from Lance Armstrong to Brock Lesnar. The storm losing a few titles did nothing compared to how much they gained by cheating the cap and it’s so fucking easy if you do it properly otherwise get used to being the minnows of the NRL

Nice guys finish last boys...never truer words spoken

Roosters, Broncos, Storm & Rabbitohs, have powerful, influential figures who are business smart, intellectually smart (this is a big thing) as well as street smart.

Its frustrating as fuck, that we have neither of the above, being the old board and by the looks of it this new board.

The 4 teams mentioned above, ALWAYS have a plan B,C & D if A fails or does not come to fruition.

Take rorters for example. Replace Maloney with Keary, Pearce with Cronk, Ferguson with Brett Morris & Ryan Hall, etc

We replace Brett Morris with Crichton, Josh Morris with Montoya, Cook with Lichaa, Finucane with Tony Williams

Legal or not, there is always a way to work around it, and as mentioned, its the powerful, business smart , intellectually advanced persons who come out the other end victorious.

You can put a spin on whatever and however you want, every single successful business, charity organisation and sporting club, not only bends the rules but breaks them with little to no fuss, and the most dissapointing aspect is that we have and have had dickheads running our club, who could not even run a meat raffle on a Friday afternoon at the local

Good fucken riddance

It's going to be interesting watching the conniptions the NRL gets itself into over this one. Let's start off with what's the difference between this and what the Tuggers tried with Farah? Zackery the same, a promised job after retirement.

There were rumblings about Foran being medically retired and it was only AFTER the media came out as basically the unofficial spokesperson for the NRL and said they wouldn't allow it that Foran THEN said he wouldn't be retiring.

Why would Foran retire and take a $600K pay cut? Whatever Inglis gets you can guarantee the rest will be made up by brown paper bags. Gotta look after Number 1, and anyone who says otherwise is kidding themselves. Imagine going to your wife and kids and saying I took a $600K pay cut for the team/club....
1,000% spot on. NO ONE in any city, in any state in any country would sacrifice 1.5 million dollars. If anyone genuinely believes that then I will swap them a shiny gold coin with the number 1 on it for their house, contents and cars.

Inglis is NOT being medically retired. If Foran chose to retire early, he could do so. The choice is always in the player's hands.
