In the scheme of things does it really matter if he gives us a answer tomorrow or in a months time? If it’s going to happen it will happen. He’s contracted to Penrith for 21 so it’s not like he will be in a rush. As fans we have no idea how the negotiations are playing out so there’s no point getting so worked up over it.

There is a bit of an incentive for Burton to sign up with the minimum delay, currently he is being paid at the Penrith pittance rate (weekly, fortnightly. monthly, whatever) , whereas if/when he signs with us he will get paid more. Of course we could agree to "make up" pay by having his contract back dated to 1st November. Maybe that's what the hold up is?

By the Panthers delaying his release, if indeed they intend to, right now it leaves the Bulldogs as a less attractive club to other off contract players including their own that we may also be negotiating with.

With Burton "Officially" on our books, it would be a more desirable destination for say somone like Stephen Crichton for example and this could also be a reason for the Panthers to continue playing hard ball.

Burton is a good young player but I doubt he would play such a pivotal role in players making a decision to come to the club.

It might if they are from Penrith and know personally how good he is. It also gives us 2 quality halves instead of 1 and a better team IMO. Players want to go to a club that has a chance at some success- and at least a chance to turn up every week with a genuine chance to win the game - he helps us do this.
