Agreed, i have said before that I feel our players have been let down badly by the lack of coaching over the past couple of years. Even non-skill attributes such as strength and conditioning I think we are way behind the pack which puts us at a disadvantage from the outset. Just have at look at Penrith last night how they move off their line in defence compared to how we just wait for the ball runner to hit our line. No wonder the opposition just roll through our forwards and easily make a heap of metres each set of six. Surely any coach worth his salt identifies the problem and fixes it
And whilst we all slag off the players (and deservedly so) for crap performances that we don't think are up to first grade standard, it just makes me wonder how much professional coaching these players have been given. JMK as an example. Never played hooker before, was always a half. Thrown into the hooker role and does have some attributes that are needed as a hooker such as toughness, defensive technique, speed etc but as for vision, distribution from dummy half, game management, kicking etc etc he is lacking. Wouldn't a coach think ok, I'm throwing this guy into one of the toughest positions on the field who has never played there before, let's get him some specialised coaching. Bring in a Mick Ennis, Robbie Farah, or whoever to really coach the intricacies of the position into him. Who knows , maybe just maybe if JMK had this type of specialised coaching for the past 2 seasons he may have developed and grown into the role and we mightn't be desperately looking for another hooker, but unfortunately where we stand at this moment, JMK just isn't good enough for us.
I really think this lack of coaching will be corrected next year with TBaz . I have a good feeling that our new look coaching staff will give the entire playing squad every opportunity to improve and grow as players
