I guess the publicans are stuck between a rock and a hard place,
They have to protect their licence by adhering to the liquor laws,

Unfortunately the meat heads they employ to carry out this are not intelligent enough to desiffer who's drunk and who's not,

Posibly they need to use breathalysers,
Like you can't drive if you are .05,
Perhaps the alcohole laws should be if you are over a certain level then you are refused service and asked to leave,

But letting these meat heads make their own mind up is not the way to go,
It's not only completely impractical to use breathalysers, it's also stupid and really ruins the environment of a bar/nightclub. Can you imagine the mood of a place that uses breathalysers on anywhere from 20-40 people a night?

It is hard to tell when people are drunk and often if they show signs of lack of control, slurring, loudness or things like that then the security will feel that that person is intoxicated. There is always room for error and you have to understand that they go on what they see and also what they've experienced before.

Unfortunately, the liquor laws place a lot of pressure on staff and I know from experience that it can be tough to know exactly what level the authorities are looking for. The police walk through the club I work at 2-3 times every night, so it's imperative that we keep on top of intox levels, because otherwise, the police will remove patrons and that is far more serious for us and our liquor license.

Perhaps instead of calling security/bouncers meatheads, you should try doing the job yourself for an extended period of time, it is that sort of disrespect that causes such a divide between staff and patrons. I know there are plenty of idiots, but there are many just trying to do the job that is asked of them.

Every single weekend I work, I get at least one older person telling me they used to do my job and that I'm wrong and that I'm too young to tell them what to do. I've had older guys tell me to shut up after I've asked them politely to allow me the room to wipe the table they were on etc. I've had older guys tell me that they're old enough to be my father, and yet I have to remain polite, calm, and respectful. (This happens with young guys too, I'm just using older guys in this instance because you made a point of your age earlier.)

I always try to be polite about removals and explain that it's not my choice, but rather the law which forces me to do what I do. Maybe keep in mind that these bouncers have put up with protests many times, and people can often be very disrespectful purely out of ignorance of the job, so over a period of time, it really does build up.

From a personal point of view, I want everybody to have a good time, but I have to bear in mind that we are a licensed premises, and also that one persons good time shouldn't ruin another persons good time. It's a tough position to be in, and it's made harder when people treat you like crap most of the time. Maybe next time, say to the bouncer, "sorry if we are looking a bit drunk, we've had about 5-6 beers, we'd be happy to have some water and something to eat and we will manage our levels of intox a bit better". If they still say no, then either you're more wasted than you say, or they are being dickheads. Trust me, the staff appreciate someone making an effort to help them out. We hate kicking people out as much as they probably hate being kicked out.

Not all us guards are "meat heads" Skip.

Some of us know how to approach and talk to people, especially intoxicated ones.

Book and ASSASSIN just said the same thing.

I preferred the crib notes version. :slick:

I have a mate that is notorious for getting refused entry especially when he has not had a drink.

One particular time we had been out all day getting smashed and all sorts of mischief at Good Vibes or some other music festival. He had to work but came out and met us after. We are all in the standard filthy festival shit and off our face and they stop him at the door and say "na mate your way too drunk" and wave us through. Ha ha man did he have the shits. We all kept going and waved goodbye as a joke as we were all going to turn back around after a minute and try going somewhere else when one of us gets a text saying "f**k all you stupid pricks. You can all get stuffed" we walk back outside just in time to see him get into a taxi and speed off down the road home. It was actually probably a good decision on his part as the night was huge. He got us all back by calling us all early the next morning seeing if we wanted to go for a run...

Who ever said the one about being refused service by a bottle shop... Ha ha bloody hell.

Ps. I like how this place balances itself out. One thread you have the "Ramadan Lounge" the next thread is "Bloody got kicked outta the pub last night"

You guys are right,
And despite my disappointment in the security on the night, I do appreciate what they do, and what they must have to deal with,
