From the quick read of the article, Lockyer is quoted as saying "they're (we) probably after a halfback" he hardly indicates he's actually got any word on us being in negotiations/close to closing a deal. Gould supposedly approached hunt a while ago though.

I'd be ok with picking up an experienced half to guide our young halves for a year or two. But it could actually backfire a bit if players with potential see their pathways closing before their eyes.
If the manager of both OK and Rajab has the interest of their players at heart he will advise them both to stay put, and learn from Hunt and Burton because it will benifit them in the long run, if both are any good (unlike Flanagun) they will be a lot better players in 2 years time.

If we have:

1. Crichton
6. Burton
7. Hunt
9. Mahoney

We make the finals next season.
Still light on in the forwards. Until that is sorted, this spine won’t realise it’s potential at our club.

Irrelevant to us making the 8. We would be in the 8 right now if we had Hunt & Crichton.

I heard a whisper a week ago that it’s already a done deal with us seems that Lockyer got the same mail. I also know that Gus has entrenched himself heavily in every junior nursery north of the tweed river. Talent scouts I know up here refer to us as the Queensland Bulldogs  Has a nice ring to it.

Player managers don't tend to play the long game. If they can advise a player to stay on a lesser deal that might make them a better player in three years while they (the player manager) earns $10k-$20k less as a result, they'll usually advise them to move so they (player manager) earns a bit more.

Perhaps, however with the exception of a few very special players, most backs will struggle when their forwards are being dominated.

We lost to the Warriors, Raiders & Roosters all by 4 or less points. We win those games if we had Hunt & Crichton. That would've put us in the 8. We also probably win other games as well.

Sport isn't that complicated. You're making it seem like that it is.
