Was just reading this VERY good article about IS.
This caught my eye though.
Namely, let us not forget that some of the United States’ staunchest allies have been, and remain, responsible for facilitating the arrival of money, materiel, and jihadists into Islamic State territory, not to mention providing the ideological guidance for the terror group. They have been doing so in the hopes of toppling Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
Jihadists have crossed the borders of Jordan and Turkey into Syria, seemingly at will. Qatar, Kuwait, UAE, and Saudi Arabia have not stopped their private citizens from sending money to various Islamist brigades, including Islamic State. They also give airtime to the muftis who provide ideological guidance to Islamic State, religious scholars who condone sectarian killing, gruesome beheadings, and sexual slavery on theological grounds.
She isn't touching on conspiracy theories (but much in the way Putin commented on people from X countries are funding IS), but it touches on an interesting point. All the bad eggs / radicals in countries surrounding Syria/Iraq, and who may be against the western culture some of those countries are trying to encourage, have easily wandered over into Syria/Iraq (the middle eastern dumping ground for sh*t), and caused all sorts of problems there. Thus the sudden uprising of IS.
Between Afghanistan and Iraq, western armies already have their hands full, and as such this has allowed Syria/Libya to be overrun but opportunistics, hell bent on revenge against the west.
and this article is interesting too

Talks about people actually in Syria fearing the warplanes filling the skies.
Meanwhile John Prados writes a very good blog here about the damage IS has done themselves with the Paris attacks.

He comments that all this does is put western authorities on higher alert and allow them to build better threat profiles to follow, in order to track down and apprehend those considering future attacks.
It's a good point too, because the western countries have the resources, the know how, and the technology to prevent and track suspects before they become an issue. With every attack, the western world learns and takes hints from it, in order to prevent future attacks.
