Panther is such a poor data point, success brings so many cash injections, being an absolute rabble like we’ve been, brings the opposite.
Exactly right!
Hang on though? Aren’t sponsorships at the bulldogs the biggest for years? Hasn’t membership gone up? Have we not bought players to improve our ladder position?
You have to ‘spend money to make money’ Mr Rothfield?
Hasn’t Mr Rothfields team the sharks just sold real estate to keep afloat financially
What happens to the sharks when the real estate runs out?

this a nothing article with no supporting resources. He does not have access to the dogs financials and does not work there. So as far as I’m concerned it’s an article way biased and trash. Should be placed in the rubbish. This type of journalism should be illegal or penalised.

that quote from director at the dogs or someone in the inner circle is so lame’ it’s laughable.

don’t worry about it guys / girls

How do NRL clubs make a profit?
Desperate Drunkenfield and his masters News Ltd are at it again showing true animosity and hatred towards our club, mixing little truth with so many lies in their stories about us in their attempt to derail our rebuild.
Should our club lodge an official complaint to the NRL and the journalism authorities ?
Isn't it time the authorities in journalism put an end to their disgraceful acts ?

Buzz making a point that panthers can run without club support, is stupid. Obviously winning premierships helps financially.

So Buzz makes up a story about drones, complaining that the club doesn't spend enough money, says the Bulldogs are a basketcase, an outdated club that doesn't do what it should to compete..

Less than a year later, he's complaining that we're spending too much despite having one of the most powerful leagues clubs in NSW.

I can't wait for Gus' reply about how wrong he is with the finances. He probably got this info from the same source he got the drones mail.. A bottle of metho..

Who are the ‘journalism authorities’? :-).
What would the NRL do about it? Hint: NOTHING.
You take the bait every time.
Unless they say something that is clearly defamatory or illegal they can write what they want. All ‘news’ these days is designed to get clicks and revenue and when it causes ‘outrage’ they have achieved their objective. By far the best approach is to ignore it, laugh it off and definitely take it with a grain of salt.

‘Protests’ as you’re framing it are a waste of time. Move on mate: the best outcome is for us to WIN.

Buzz weekend highs and lows: Financial threat to Phil Gould’s Canterbury Bulldogs rebuild | Daily Telegraph
At first glance Gus Gould’s multimillion-dollar knock down and rebuild of the Canterbury Bulldogs is looking good.

The great man is quickly assembling a roster that will challenge the premiership heavyweights.

It is, however, putting a considerable strain on the club’s finances.

The Bulldogs needed a $5.8 million cash grant from their licensed club last season just to break even.

This is almost unheard of in modern-day rugby league.

Every other Sydney based NRL club is now self-sufficient.

Manly and Souths haven’t had poker-machine support for years.

The Panthers, Eels and Roosters are now running profitable or break-even football operations without support from their licensed clubs.

Increased funding from the NRL for all 17 clubs obviously helps.

The Bulldogs are a different proposition.

It cost them $1 million a year to hire Gus. They had to pay out coach Trent Barrett then hire Cameron Ciraldo on big bucks.

Last week they sent the Broncos a $500,000 cheque as a transfer fee for untried 18-year-old halfback Karl Oloapu.

While most companies are cutting back, the Bulldogs have increased staffing levels by almost 50 per cent in the last 18 months.

The problem for Canterbury fans is that this is unsustainable spending.

And here is why …

The state government is soon to introduce the controversial new cashless gaming cards.

For clubs like Canterbury League it could have a devastating effect.

“It could cripple us,” said one club director I spoke to last week.

Last year the licensed club made an $11 million profit and gave the footy club $5.8 million.

That money won’t be there in future years with these new gaming cards.

Like other responsible NRL clubs have done, the Bulldogs will have to slash costs if they are to survive long term. Quick fixes don’t work.

You look at the Panthers as an example under their CEO Brian Fletcher.

The football club itself has made a profit of around $16 million in the last three years – without a penny from poker machines.

It comes from sponsorship, merchandise, membership, sellout crowds, winning two premierships and increased NRL funding.

Before that, while Gus was at Penrith, the Panthers were losing an average $5 million a season.

The Canterbury Bulldogs – and their success-starved fans – will no doubt have something to cheer about in the not-too-distant future.

Whether it can last under their current business model is the big question.
Well I guess it’s Buzz’s job to write articles for DT for clicks. Well he is certainly achieving that without any hint of quality. Buzz is a real goon.
He should well know this will be a short term strategy to get us out of a hole and competing again. With winning comes success and income. He only has to look at Penrith (Gus’s previous model) to see how well it works. He should write something positive like that.
Buzz……successful powerhouse teams like the Bulldogs will ensure long term survival of the NRL & keep you employed you twit. [emoji15]
