Right now he’s neither.
He’s a first year head coach who no doubt has learned a lot (his additional grey hairs show it). His mistakes were compounded with an injury crisis where realistically we should’ve won 3-4 more games and if we’d finished with say 11 wins I’d say most would’ve acknowledged as a step forward on previous (recent) seasons. But I have no problem with his tenure, there’s clearly a plan and i won’t begin to judge him until well into his second season the same way I did Barrett.

I wouldn’t have re-signed Reynolds nor parroted his ‘homecoming’, but it did provide some ‘content’ than many (including yourself comparing to EPL clubs) had been crying out for. I wouldn’t have brought back Brown either. Pele failed but who was to know until they gave it a crack?

You could also say that these 3 players were not significant signings anyway. People make too much of fringe player signings. Brown was never going to make a huge difference. Pele was a project, high risk, high return and Grub was on his last legs and really just a official motivator. He retired mid season which may have been planned long before or not, it doesn’t really matter. The point is, those 3 had hardly any bearing on what we did or didn’t achieve this season. They don’t warrant mentioning in the whole picture.
