They are not "new" issues, it's only that our scientific/medical community just now are recognising this as a medical issue to be handled and documenting the needs.

Hmm yes sorry I can’t agree with a lot of that.
All of this identifying with, pronouns etc is fairly new and coincides with the world never being so PC, cancel culture and everyone being offended on behalf of others

U need to know more medical professionals.

Somewhere in the world is a 'gold standard' book of recognised child psychological disorders. I believe in the 1970's, there were something like 200 recognised disorders. That book now rolls over several volumes and has something like 2500 disorders. Did we become better at diagnosing child psychology? Its not like we have better equipment.

Not downplaying mental health issues but sometimes I wonder whether these are new issues or whether psychologists are looking for fame by being the 'guy' and playing into otherwise normally treatable or manageable disorders by having found something 'new'. Just look at the Ritalin generation - rather than managing your energy through counselling and redirection - we dope everyone up. Its an interesting question and not pretending I know the answer - just have a view.

I have very close friends who work with trans people.

They are the most caring and empathetic people that I know of and they would never wish harm on their patients.

Not by any means am I saying this current methodology is the right answer (it could change and the early data suggests that 95% are happy with their transition, and that it was the right decision, 5 years after theirtransition), rather I'd trust them more than an outrage factory (right wing sources) that refuses to budge in their view of how people should behave and uses these people to spread mistruths around the general population.

I think you're responding with your views on trans rights - thats cool and I'm not going there. But a girl believing she's a cat and/or a girl believing she is Jesus has no direct medical argument. Other than a mental process. So I'm asking - who makes the rules.

Back in the day I was a punk. Is that any different?

I was acknowledging your query, just wasn't clear about it. Basically I have NFI and leave to medical professionals . And it is an interesting question at what stage is that determination made because it could be argued that there just is no normal or that we consciously draw up normality boundaries
