Really shattered with our defence this has dragged on from previous years and is a major concern.
We have no mongrel in defence
Refereee didn’t give us a look in at all today.
Positive we fought till the end .
Negative learn to tackle FFS
What was obvious in Raiders very first set was that none of our middles went for legs tackles. Everybody was grabbing and Raiders middles were staying on their feet and then for some unknown reason Sutton the brain dead referee then allowed Woodford to keep pushing forward the Raiders player with the ball, as a rolling rugby maul. Horsborough was held after advancing 6 mths the ref for some unknown reason failed to call held despite his progress being stopped then Woodford pushing him ANOTHER 18 mths.
3 things going wrong simultaneously.
1. Not 1 Dogs player even attempted to take his legs.
2. Ref failing to call held and
3. Ref allowing Woodford to push his teammate another 18 mtr in an illegal maul
I thought we were playing rugby league, not rugby union.
If Woodford actions are legal then every ball carrier that stayed on his feet would be pushed in this manner. We'd have mauls with a ball carrier and 3 teammates holding him up pushing him forward.
Moral of the story:
Don't expect a referee to know the fucking rules of rugby league.
Instead, first man in take his waist and slide down to take his legs out, being careful not to fall on him as he falls.
It's THAT simple.
One would of thought master D coach CC would of ensured this was our tackling technique practiced ad nauseum during the pre season.
Apparently not!!!!!

Can’t blame the coach when our players are dropping or not contesting easy bombs. Perham dropped a sitter which turned into a try and that first try to Casey’s wing and he didn’t even attempt to catch and Rapana scored were disgusting. Sadly we win the game if they secure the ball in those two catches.

Our defence in the middle is as good as it's been in years but our edges have been horrible defensively all season which is compounded by how many different combos we have due to injuries.

The constant dumb penalties given away to let teams out of their own half and not catching or showing any urgency defending kicks is another huge part of the problem.

Right now teams are targeting certain players week to week and it's paying off for them.

I think our discipline in defence is also what kills us
You got it. It's like a switch gets turned on then off. Sometimes the defence is good, even great at times, and then F#ck me, they are standing around star gazing. Discipline and attitude, both are dismal at times.

If you look at that try, our blokes were all facing our tryline, not attacking at all. So f#cking frustrating.

Admittedly, in the midst of an injury crisis, we've had 30+ put on us by some of the best attacks in the game.
And one of those had 30 put on them by the Broncos last night.

And importantly our line does not move up as a line (look at Alamoti today). We need to meet the attack before it gets too far over the advantage line........unfortunately we appear to wait for the attack to come to us. Perhaps it is a question of fitness, which has been a problem for Dogs for the past decade. Not helped a lot by playing King today, when he was obviously not fit & ready.
No Ado Carr looking for the intercept, which puts them off throwing some of those long passes that get us every time.

That was effectively what Ciraldo said at the press conference. I expect that he will make them watch the game, and call out those who were MIA and ask why they deserve a first grade spot.

Injuries, lack of playing same team week in week out… people need to realise that it takes time to defend next to a new player every week. Once the team begins to finally play back to back matches with the same line up then defence will get better.
It takes no time to drop the shoulder and hit. Bulldogs hit, not jersey grab. We push up and hit. These boys, just want to cuddle and talk about there heritage in a fucking circle

Here's the new pre-game speech. I don't give a flying fuck where you come from or who your great grand father used to be. No one breaks the line and you fucking hit them like they killed your mum.

Injuries to key players and no depth
Yes playing almost a different (2nd) team each week has impacted both defence and attack. At least this year we seem to have no issue scoring 20+ in most matches as opposed to the TBaz era.

We've already used 28 players and have had 6 debutants. Broncos and Sharks who are 1 and 2 have used 20 players and haven't handed out a single debut. Both those teams also have substantially better top 17's. It's practically impossible to compete against that.

In terms of giving up metres and no intimidation it is.. I meant in terms of breaking through the line.. We don't break through the middle for line breaks and tries as often as we have in previous years.

But obviously the defence is still an issue as we never win the ruck, give away too many penalties, don't try and catch kicks and our edges are horrible. Whichever way you look at it we have issues in defence that need to be sorted but at the end of the day we have a lot of average one on one defenders..

Simple - being soft ***** and having too many inexperienced players. One thing about under 50, probably even under 100 game players is that they don’t have the toughness most of the time. It usually takes a few seasons to acquire it.

If we look at last night for instance, most tries were poor reads or efforts by rookies. Perham, Alamoti and Casey mainly. I think Burton made at least one poor tackle attempt too.

They're not breaking through the middle because the opposition constantly shifts to the edges once our middles get rolled. Our edges have issues but the middles are a bigger concern considering there's absolutely none available on the market.
