Burton needs to be retained here and I see him building a career at 5/8 ! The kid is special and we will be a future Origin player 100% ..
Wait till he gets a decent hooker and forward pack to operate behind..Get him a 7 specialist and a Fb he can use along with Jac on kicks to corners goal posts and in the Air and were on the way to fulfilling his potential...

A try and two try assists seems pretty enthusiastic to me.
Wtf? You think players who are unhappy at their current clubs don’t try to perform well? They always try to play well because if they do, their value increases. If they don’t, their value depreciates. Laying on try assists and scoring tries is great, but it doesn’t prove a player is happy playing for a club. SBW single handedly beat the broncos in 2008 and then hopped on a plane to weasel out of a contract a few weeks later.

I won’t believe Burton is enthusiastic about playing for this club until he says he loves playing for the jumper and wants to help turn the joint around, or until he inks a new contract.

You're too much sometimes. Actions speak louder than words. Look at players like Naden's antics on the field to see what players who don't want to be here do..

I’m too much? Why? Because I reply with my honest opinion when you try to call me out?
Come on, bro. Comparing one of the most talented young players in the game to Naden is ridiculous. One is an elite talent, the other is a fringe first grader.

I never said Burton didn’t have talent to burn. I said I think he’ll be out the door at his first available opportunity. He had an outstanding game tonight, but did nothing to change my opinion that he wants out.

Gus was asked in commentary tonight if he saw Burton as a marquee player. He said “definitely, he’s someone we see at this club for a very long time”.

Once we get Kikau and Mahoney next year he’ll get far more opportunities to display his talent.

Not questioning his talent, bro. Just his desire to stay at the club.

I need to find my crystal ball otherwise I'd be just guessing what Burton has going on behind his eyeballs.

Because the discussion was about skill not defence and as I have stated walker has skills as attributes of a half .

Burton has not shown these other than a big boot , runs like a centre … good club / bad club doesn’t mean anything to me atm one has shown his skills and using them the other is not . In 3 years or even sooner it may or may not change but right now walker has the better skill and is the better player imo
Burton sure showed the skills of a half last night.

Ok la familiars,

I have made no secret of the fact I think a cannibal would show more enthusiasm for a tofu dinner than Matt Burton shows for our club. I think he'll be out the door at the first available opportunity. But I wanted to get other people's feelings on the subject. How long do you think he'll be a dog? Is he our long term five eighth? Should we already start planning for a future without him?
Not before you have been booted

Yes he did and great game and not talking about his kicks . He went to the line with purpose whether pulled it off or not . That’s the skill that has not been evident this year .

dont really Want to be talking about a rooster player , but talk to anyone that’s not a roosters / riff / dogs Supporter who don’t have skin in the argument or have blinkers on and overwhelming response will be walker

firstly defence wasn’t the issues being discussed .. yet to see the best of burton yet does not mean he is better than Walker or has more skill ..

so being at a shit joint is the reason that burton cannot show his skill as a 5/8.. well then can we not blame the forwards , halfbacks , coaches , burton even and others for jmk being shit and not showing his skill .. maybe jmk is slow at the Ptb because he knows his forwards will not be at the line to pass the ball or the team can’t catch and hold onto a ball , or he takes wrong options because the halves are mutes and not directing or organising the attack or even calling for the ball like every other half in the comp that organises attack.

burton has not demonstrated that he has playmaking skill or that he engages the line like a 5/8 to try put on plays, even if they don’t work out . He either passes early or when he runs to The line he runs like a centre and no subtley to it

is burton good yes , doss he have potential to be better yes , but Is he better than the younger Walker or more skilful right now .. the answer is no and I’m yet to be convinced that burton rightful position is 5/8 , I think he showed last year he is a centre or even be a great ball playing lock .
How can he engage the line when he has to stop to catch the ball thrown behind him or over his head? Our passing looks so clunky so that’s a major part of why Burton isn’t playing to his potential

I'm not too sure what you're taking, sniffing or whatever but if that's your view you're probably going to get a pleasant surprise over the next few years. You weren't born prematurely were you - its seeped into your logic if you were.. Look forward young man - things will get better !!

I can see Burton signing a new contract with us. He will have arguably the best second rower in the competition in Kikau playing next to him along with JAC there on the left. You would think it would be after November as his manager will create the notion of shopping him around in order to get the best deal from Canterbury
