In 1967 (it could have been 1968?) I attended a game with my father at Belmore, sitting next to the player's box, where before half time Kevin Ryan (Captain Coach) pulled the team off the field. We were getting hammered, really hammered, in the penalties and the ref kept waving him away like an Under 10's player. Anyone who knows KL (lawyer, barrister and MP) will tell you, he didn't appreciate being treated like a primary school kid. The crowd was incensed and back in those days we were allowed onto the field straight after the game and it felt like the crowd wasn't going to wait for the whistle. Obviously it created quite a stir at the time, but I haven't been able to find any news articles on it on line.
I have a vague recollection that the referee was Keith Page, but I could be wrong, and for the life of me I can't remember who we were playing. So Kennelers with long memories, please fill in the gaps.
