Tigers Confirm Talks With Cotric

The kids a gun. Finally Jac and cotric out wide? Fucking hell. Give it a year.

I hope this happens. The thought of those two on the left is boner inducing. Cotric has a similar build to Olam. Not as destructive m but more skilful. Then you add Burton-TPJ/Hethro on their inside, phwoar get me a kleenex!

If it improves the team overall to release him, then I guess we do it. How that happens I don't know. Will/can we get Mahoney early? I doubt it unless Parra are the recipients of Cotric. And even if we could get Mahoney early, is it really worth losing a gun back? He has played a lot of fb I think, but I don't remember him doing much at NRL level at the back. It's something worth considering though, since at his reported salary, it would be fairly conservative fullback money. Dufty is only contracted for a year, but could make a case to get extended.

I don't know, I just hope if we do lose him, it's worth it!

I reckon no.

Talau no doubt is on a decent pay at tigers as they suck. Paying a third of cotrics wage alone is a fuck no.

But we'll be getting Talau, so really, we'll be paying him $200k, which is fair. I've been quite impressed with what I've seen of him. I wonder if his bro is still at the club?

Can someone ask Gus if these rumours are true

Your assuming talau is on 200k. Doubt it. He also wouldn’t lock into a new club for 200k.

Regardless paying cotric 200k is a fuck no from me.

I get the feeling his money is going towards Mahoney that’s why we’re trying to release him. It’s a loss in my books his a quality winger and will shine in a good side.

What do yas reckon we give them Cotric and pay $200k, but in return we get Talau? Bring another former player's son back to the club who has a lot of potential. Only concern is he's recovering from an acl iirc?
No need for shit players or to pay anything for his contract but will take stefano as a bonus

That’s fine. Do it in 2023(if we have too) when he’s here.

Allen will surely be off to dolphins with Wayne e again too.who knows flanagan might get a coaching job by then to…

The Wests Tigers have emerged as a left-field contender to sign ex-NSW and Australian flyer Nick Cotric.

Fox Sports has learned Wests Tigers coach Michael Maguire and director of football Tim Sheens met with the Canterbury-Bankstown outside back over the weekend and remain in negotiations to orchestrate an immediate release.

Initially the Canberra Raiders were the early favourites for Cotric to return to the national capital but the Tigers interest is now gaining serious momentum.

Tigers director of football Tim Sheens confirmed the club was in negotiations with Cotric’s agent Sam Ayoub.

“It’s certainly nowhere near being done but we’ve met with the lad and Madge likes what he could add to the roster,” Sheens said.

“We’re not the only club at the table so we’ll just have to let it take its course and see how it plays out.”

Tigers recruitment boss Warren McDonnell has spoken to Bulldogs general manager Phil Gould about the prospect of Cotric switching to Concord.

Cotric, 23, joined Canterbury-Bankstown in November of 2020 and has two years remaining on a deal believed to be worth around $650,000-a-season.

But with the Bulldogs looking to reshape the club’s roster for 2023 and beyond the ex-NSW and Australian winger has been given permission to negotiate with rival clubs.

The Canberra Raiders are still in the equation but with the Tigers armed with a $1 million war chest and three spots available in the club’s top 30 for 2022 there’s a view they could blow the Raiders out of the water.

The Tigers are still looking to bolster the club’s outside backs and Sheens confirmed the club likes the appeal of Cotric being able to play in the centres, fullback or wing.

“We’ve obviously got Daine Laurie coming back from injury and the good thing with Nick is he grew up playing fullback, has also played on the wing and can play in the centres,” the Tigers director of football said.

“So from that point of view he could provide us with depth in a number of positions.”

The Tigers outside back stocks at present consist of wingers David Nofoaluma and Ken Maumalo, centres Tommy Talau, James Roberts and Oliver Gildart and fullback Laurie.

Both highly-regarded young guns Talau and Adam Doueihi are expected to miss the beginning of 2022 after sustaining ACL injuries at the end of last season.
Funny how every newspaper thinks every winger is a flyer. Cotric has average pace and is definitely not a flyer.

Yep. I wanna see him Have a season with Jac burton dufty naden in the backline.

Not hoppa Meaney Lewis Katoa….

Really hope Gus shuts this down.

Yes. Cotric wasn’t as effective as he could be mainly because of the speed of our play the ball. Like Thompson, he’s most effective running at a retreating defensive line. Many times you’d see him clapping his hands calling for the ball and by the time the ball got to him the defence was set waiting for him. Hopefully with an improved forward pack he can get back to his Canberra form

The article mentions Cotric has a lot of experience playing fullback when younger. What are your thoughts on him being our potential fullback ?

I don’t think he has the passing game or speed required for the modern day fullback. The fullback is essentially a third half these days

Fuck the Tigers. Hope he goes to a successful club like the Roosters. Dirty about losing him so soon.

I think he has regressed a little.

I thought it during his last season at the raiders and nothing i saw last season changed my mind.

He was a flying machine when he first came to grade, but has bulked up so much it has greatly hampered his speed and agility.

Dosen't have much of a passing game so i think wing is the only real option.

Having said that i would have no problems if he stays as he is pretty good, just not the player i thought he was going to be.

I can absolutely understand why he is being shopped around. Naden is much more suited to the wing and we have options in the centres. I think Burns will surprise, he has some silky skills.

I'm not a fan of shopping players, but nice guys finish last.

Those players you named would have little to no attraction to rival clubs. Cotric does and he’s on a bad deal that we want to get rid of so that’s why he’s top of the list.
Honestly amazed people still don't understand this?

Of course it's be great to keep him but we clearly aren't having any luck off loading other players which is why were shifting to him.

All part of the dance really?
