Electricity bills. I've been running 6 planted aquariums for 3+ years until about a month ago. I sold three of them. I expected that with a reduction of three flourescent lights running 6 hours a day each, 3 water heaters and 3 filters cut from the power consumption that my bill would go down. But nope. Fucking bill still jumped up by $60 this month. I'll be ringing the ***** today to ask if they can check the metre again and if my bill isn't adjusted to reflect the fact that I've cut a fuck-load of my daily power consumption this is the last bill the ***** will get to send me.
I hear you mate.. I've still got to call our provider. Something clearly shady going on.

What grinds my gears this time of year is fake Anzac outrage.

You know the type of social media post that contains some lie about:

- Muslims trying to change our way of life.
- Some town banning the street parade in the name of political correctness.
- Anzac day being watered down

Blah Blah Blah.

And of course, "share if you are a real Australian".

It seems to happen with pretty much every public holiday or marked occasion these days, but i'm finally drawing the line at Anzac day dammit.

This Anzac "porn" is getting worse every year, and it seems that, when you look at Karl Stefanovic's comments yesterday (moaning about the new Avengers movie being released on 25 April), that it's increasingly becoming abut one upmanship about who can be the most outraged about, what was once a nice, simple, solemn occasion.

.... oh and, my mother in law.

I know she means well, but I can tell she is constantly watching our parenting, and ready at any moment to offer "advice" (ie: we're doing it wrong).

This is from a woman who didn't even raise her own kids (middle class people in Asia have maids for that job).

And she is staying for 2.5 months.

Have you considered solar panels? We've had them installed. Our power bills over the Summer were down by nearly 50%. That included nights were the AC was on for hours (and we all know how much juice the ducted AC uses)

Ask your landlord if he'll consider solar panels. He'll pay for it, yet you get the savings off your electricity bill. They're fairly cheap nowadays too - $4000 for the 12 panels.

What are you angry about exactly, the media for making it less about the true meaning of Anzac day or what?

It's the fact that so many people either:

1. Spread mis truths on social media about the day (eg: that people are somehow trying to lessen the day, or that a street march couldn't go ahead or something).
2. When people like Karl Stefanovic get on their high horse about how the day is too sacred to go and see a movie.

It happens whenever there is a big event coming up. Take the most recent Easter, for example, and the bullshit people spread abut some retailers removing the word "Easter" from chocolate eggs displays (not true). Or every Christmas when you get memes on your FB feed complaining about how people can't say "Merry Christmas" anymore (lies again). And then there is of course Australia day, when more lies get spread about people who are apparanlty offended by the flag and how we all have to share to show we are true blue Aussie.

The general do feed it a little, but its more individuals and orgnasides groups on social media that are the biggest issue (in my view). These lies are then spread by xenophobic types who would believe anything they read if it feeds their prejudice (your One Nation voting types).

Anzac Day when I was a kid was about respecting the fallen, and then getting on with life. The nation stopped for a morning of reflection. It shouldn't be about showing how awesomely Aussie you are and how you can out wank someone else.

Maybe i'm outraged about the outrage about the outrage that isn't really outrage....

Well the one about Christmas is true and it pisses me off. I myself had to create an event one day in one of my previous jobs and you know what we had to call it? "End of year celebration" as opposed to "Christmas party" because we had a Jewish guy in our team. FFS HE DIDN'T GIVE A RATS ASS.

That pisses me off to no end.

That's $4000 too much.... unless we want a rent increase.

We don't even have flyscreens here.

FMD bro your landlord is one stingey dude lol. I have fly-screens, screen doors, installed multiple new appliances (digital TC antenna, antenna cable power points, fan with light, rangehood, new clothesline) etc... for my tenants and didn't increase the rent at all.

Yes, but you can still say "Merry Christmas" to whoever you like whenever you like.

My wife's company calls its end of year thing something other than a Christmas Party because it's just that - a function at the end of the calendar and financial year (US Company). The timing of Christmas is coincidental.

Yeah, i wouldn't be installing any solar panels for a tenant TBH, as it doesn't increase the rental.

I just sold my house with a solar hot water service. I thought it was a big deal as you basically get free hot water for half the year - agents and potential buyers went: meh.

I'm in a rental property too. The cheap ***** have to be harrassed and tuhreatened to even make everyday repairs. They won't spring for $4,000 worth of solar panels if it takes so much effort to get them to fix the 15 year old stove. If they were trying to sell the property they might try value adding. But I think that many landlords see tenants as an income rather than a human that they owe respect to.

I'll be honest, I don't have solar panels on my rental property, however I have probably spent $20,000 on the place in the last 3 years. That includes other things as well like cutting down 3 huge trees.

I had the owners visit recently with a house inspection while they were doing some renovations next door. At one point they demanded I get rid of a car I'm keeping in my carport and complained that it was costing them money. It looked like he wanted to hit me when I said thats why I'm paying rent. They then threatened to have it towed away. I'm not sure if they appreciated the letter from a lawyer explaining that it is illegal, but the turds have bumped my rent up by $15/week. I'm looking for a new rental at the moment. The town I live in has a shitload of rentals right now, so I think they'll be without a tenant for a few months at least. Serves them right for being ***** and trying to bully me about a few things while they neglect the repair requests I make.

I must admit i'm a tad confused why he would say that? Was he saying it was an eyesore - like is it an old bomb that you're doing up? (not that that is justification of course).

You could argue that the rent is only being increased because of the conversation, but if your landlord is a turd, and there are alternatives around, you would be better off moving. Of course, if the landlord is indeed a dick, you might have a battle re the bond. Good luck (as both a former tenant and landlord).

In this thread, or in the forum generally?

I mean, this thread is for the very purpose of complaining :grinning:
Haha on the forum.... thought I specified that. Specifically, whining about our team. Hehe.
