OK so they're Islamicist lol.

What would you call it then?
something like that bro

I'm sure there's a word in the oxford dictionary defining a fear or discrimination towards muslims. Islamicist sounds good to me. Another Kennel patented word :p

It's not racist because Islam obviously isn't confined to a race lol.

Yeah I know - but its just easier to call it racist than "discriminatory" or "Islamophobic" or whatever lol

trust me Camden is an interesting place. Went there in April after about 10 yrs, hasn't changed 1 bit.

Dont find anything wrong with the people, some are just brainless I guess.

i for one know they have never banned the enrolling of non-muslims. Theyve left it open for every1.
That's good then, as long as the Islamic schools are as open as the catholic ones are for non-catholics students and can accomodate their needs as such then it's all good.

Tbh if M. Fahd is still going strong in the future and in the top 20 yr in yr out then it'd be the 1st choice for my kids, then selective schools.

the worst ever ranking it has had is 46, thats when they had their first ever HSC year back in 1998 i think. Since then it has been consistently in the top 20 and the past few yrs i think top 10. Last yr i think they came 5th or 6th so they have been quietly achieving.

um u dont have to read it but after i read this article in the sydney morning herald today i wrote them my opinion. im hoping it gets printed in the letters and opinion section. but yeah anyway this is what i wrote....

One world, one dream? Yeah right!

Not once in my eighteen years of life did I complain about the ‘Christian rock days’ or the Catholic Speakers who came into our public school and told us to turn to Jesus. Not once did I question this brain washing into a public high school which was supposed to be free of religion. Yet today I find the need to speak out. I’m filled with outrage and disgust by the action of the Camden Council to decline building a Muslim school yet welcoming a Catholic school. But what disgust me more are the comments made by Emil Sremchevich (President of the Camden/Macarthur Residents’ Group). He says “To be part of a community, you need to live in the community. You can’t just turn up”. Maybe it’s just me or did Mr Sremchevich skip year 3 where we were taught that Captain Cook ‘turned up’ and took this country out of the hands of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Let me remind Mr Sremchevich as a Muslim if this country is not mine, it is nor yours. Even fourth generation of Anglo-saxon Australians originally came here by boat. The only true Australians are the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are the original owners of this land. We as Australians pride ourselves as a multicultural country yet repulsive events such as the Cronulla riots still occur. As I read about racist acts such as Camden protesters placing pig’s heads on stakes in protest against the Muslim school. I can’t help to think maybe we are a country with underlying religious divisions and cultural barriers. It saddens me to realise that the Beijing Olympics emphasised the theme of one world, one dream. However we as Australians have not even learnt how to be one country yet.

good post :grinning:

btw, Sremchevich sounds like it's of Yugoslavian decent (anybody correct me if i'm wrong) and i'm sure it would be Serbian in which case it shows that some people just do not leave their old agendas and wars behind in the old country and like to carry it into their new land. And I thought this country was moving forwards rather than backwards.

That is all.

Why can't they just build a public school in the area? Why does it have to be a religious school?

there are a couple of reasons why an islamic school should not be built in camden....

firstly im not going to agree with teh ppl of camden but i will agree with camden's council decision on not approving the rezoning of that site because there are a couple of factors and the most important factor is SAFETY! anyone on here who lives out near camden will know that Burragong Road will be a killing zone for students as there are idiots in their V8 holdens/fords speed around 140km/h-160km/h on that road so it is a very stupid idea to build a school on a road where cars speed around 140kmh+.

secondly... why couldnt the quranic association think about opening up an islamic school in mt annan, currans hill or harrington park? there are heaps of muslim afghans, lebanese, palestineans and pakis moving down that way. it would have been much more of a wise decision to open up a school there rather then down in camden.

and lastly... public transport is going to be a very big issue and i dont think bus drivers would like the idea of parking their buses in front of the school on burragong road and also travelling up and down the camden valley way in the morning and afternoon

good post,..i dont get why ppl want to put a school wer theyre not made to feel welcome, yes its australia and in theory we should all get along fine n dandy under 1 banner but reality is different
i am of asian background and i accept that there will always be the pauline hansons in this society cos i/we have to live with them,..im stil happy/proud to live in this country that allowed myself and family in thats all that matters ,the real issue here is to find a suitable site to build the islamic school wer the kids can feel safe cos esp being kids, they dont need this $hit

Fine, dont call is racist, but it is still discriminatory.
OK so they're Islamicist lol.

What would you call it then?
I'd say discriminatory (as Kurry said) or prejudiced would be the more appropriate words to use.

So for all those insisting that it's called RACISM, you've got no idea what racism really is. Try proving that an Indonesian Muslim is of the same race as a Syrian Muslim or an American Negro Musilm. You wouldn't stand a chance!

People might dislike Muslims for all sorts of reasons, but definitely not on the basis of racism. Until Islam is found in the genes or DNA of human beings, then it has nothing to do with race!

What people don't realise is that the owners of the land for the proposed islamic school and stakeholders simply need to make a decision on whether to contest the council ruling at the LEC. The court will rule in favour of the school and it's a formality that the school will be built.

Keep in mind it'll probably be open for enrolments in 2010 which is 1-2 yrs before we see an influx of about 100,000 residents into that area.

-------------------------------

Sharmoot, why did you go to a catholic school mate? Just curious.
Parents chose to put me in private school, and the catholic ones were the only ones available

So from the whole thread the only thing that bothered you and you chose to make an argument about is the definition of Racism...well let me tell you while the term racism usually denotes race-based prejudice, violence, discrimination, or oppression, the term can also have varying and hotly contested definitions. Racial discrimination (Which is a form of Racism) is treating people differently through a process of social division into categories not necessarily related to race. Racial segregation policies may officialise it, but it is also often exerted without being legalised.

Way to chose your battles dude...
