So why is woods talked up more than anyone? He isn’t the son of an ex player for us to be lied to.
Because Woods is a freak of a player and could easily play anywhere in the backline.
But i dont agree about O'Neill i dont think he'll make it, i thought he went backwards last year.

Agree I think Cassias Tia has probably jumped him in the pecking order based on the eye test. Tia has the advantage of being a big body so could also become a 13. Oneil is a half. Could maybe transition into a 9 like JMK/Flanno as he seems to be pretty fit.

I agree about O'Neil, I watched him last year and what I could see, he's just not there yet if at all.
Watching the SG Ball game on the weekend, I'm looking forward to seeing Alex Conti at some point as an option too.

Woods is a better talent but he reminds me more of a 6 or 1.

If he makes it as a 7 in the NRL he will be more of a DCE type 7 than a Cleary type 7.

I'm not sure about his ability to team manage, but i've seen his kicking game, its pretty elite for a 6 or 1 tbh.

I've got a deep hatred of Hasler and my psychologist told me I should share my feelings more often. Do I did it in the wrong place?

Bad Tassie. BAD Tassie
We must have the same hatred.
My shrink told me to stop thinking about it unless someone else hates him too.
I liked your post.

I also agree to an extent but..
People also said the same about Cleary and they are saying the same about Galvin. I remember being at a seminar with Wayne Bennett speaking and he said if they are good enough to be trusted with a top 30 spot you need to back them on the field. I think it’s more the mental load of such a long season that gets the kids in the end. Most of the good 7’s debuted pretty young
Agree.
Its not easy for a young kid in an assertive position like halfback to come into a team with old stalwarts and dictate play.
But in a relatively new team like ours, its not that bad as most players haven't quite cemented their spots.

We shall see how the Burton-Sexton combo goes this year, but if its not an improvement on last year, its time to give the kid a shot.

Thats the tough decision the coaching staff will need to make.....

At some point, this team has to become less reliant on kicks to get out of trouble and have halves who create line breaks.

Its at that point where Burton must be cut loose or certainly moved from the halves.

At the moment, we need his big boot. But at some point, we are going to want a premiership.

That's a bit of a low blow to burto tbh, I thought his running game had improved dramatically last year, he's not only good for a big bomb. However, I will say that he does need to step it up again if he wants to keep the spot with so many potential guns coming up through the ranks.

Only reason Conti was hyped is because he’s best mates with Woods. I don’t see the fuss with Conti or O’Neill tbh

You watched many games of Conti?
I heard the same and this weekend was the first proper game I saw from him, so its just a first look opinion, that he has potential.

Yh our NSW cup halves struggled for the most part when Sexton/Hutch weren't there

The club still needs another option at 1 and 7. Woods is talented but sits well down the pecking order this year, I am not convinced O'Niell will make it to the NRL and want to see Toa start the year at 7 in NSW Cup. I am fine with Burton at 6. The club also needs another one or two largish middle forwards to come on this year wether it be Amone, Todd, Underhill, Hayes, Hopoi and that player they just signed from the Warriors. Curran and King are workman like but offer little to get excited about in attack, Hughes is still proving himself and remains behind Curran and King in the pecking order. Mann is nearing the end of his career and I am not yet confident he will be as good this year as he was last year.

I think "improved dramatically" is far fetched.
He improved on previous seasons, ill give him that, but i wouldn't consider him anywhere near the top 10 5/8ths in the comp. Except for his kicking.

To be fair...even the broken Adam Reynolds produced more notable running breaks than Burto last year and he'd be lucky to have played half the season.

Would not be surprised to see Tia end up in the 13 jersey
Nah hes an out and out half... not a 13...
13s need size again now.. Carrigan, Yeo, Liero, Hopgood, Jake Turbo, Murray, Whyte/Radley, Smithies, Fonua Pole, Tino... all big bodies

I like Tia's game management,.. Woods is apparently 80kgs and 5 feet 10... say he grew another 2 inches and bulked up to 85kgs + maybe he could transition to fullback down the road...

That’s why we have been a shit team for so long, it’s this short sightedness to be creative that makes our club a losing club.
Burton, woods and Tia if all come good don’t fit into 2 x positions.
It’s why teams like Melbourne are far superior to our club.
Yup not big enough move on!
