Karl Oloapu

That's not how it used to work when it was included in the salary cap. Years ago, Parramatta wanted an Englishman to come over & play for them. As usual, the English club wanted a transfer fee. The NRL told Parramatta that it had to be included in their cap, so the deal never went ahead. A couple of years later, Souths signed Sam Burgess - same deal, only this time the NRL declared that transfer fees were no longer included in the salary cap. That's when t changed. When the transfer fee is between NRL clubs, it has never been the case that the receiver of the fee had their cap increased.

what you mean is the rule is dependent upon if roosters , Souths or broncos are involved

Agree mostly but of what I saw of him in nrl he never looked to me to be someone who would set the world on fire.

Even watching his highlights videos, I thought he has a great running game and a bit of aggression in defence. But I didn't see him creating the opportunities with slick passing or a crafty kicking game. Entirely possible that whoever put that video together just highlighted him running away to score. But his lower grade form shows he's got good footwork, reasonable pace and in the lower grades he was hard to tackle and looked a cut above in strength terms.

What I saw in the NRL was that he was pretty well matching it in strength terms at 19. Given time to develop, I'd think he could bring his running game up to NRL standard, and you'd suspect that he could continue to get stronger.

So I didn't see him instantly becoming the saviour that many hoped for. But he was a 19yo stepping into a struggling team. So it's hard to guess if he'd get up to speed and unleash the running game he had in the juniors.

What if we had a report from a specialist that said there was a high risk of injury and then Karl ends up with a severe injury.

That would be an unacceptable situation and not one we would like to face in a court of law or public opinion.

I have no idea what the situation is! He was an exciting prospect so it will be disappointing for everyone if he can’t realise his potential, especially playing for Canterbury.
My point is if he has a second opinion saying orherwise. Id then seek a third and fourth opinion. If they are in favour i would go with the majority assuming that Karl himself wants to play

Karl has one thing going for him that most players don't. Impeccable tackling technique.

His running game and step are also definitely decent, watch one of the games he played against Parra where he set up a try with his running. We've also got to consider not a single player looked good when he debuted with us, even Burton looked ass because our team was a shambles.

Obviously with his medical issues we will have to wait and see but he is a talent and had he debut in a stronger team, would've probably had a lot raps on him.

All depends on who you seek these opinions from.
As stated by someone previously you can get 20 Drs opinions and all of them could be wrong.
I dont think the Club wants him to take the paddock for us again due to the possible massive legal ramifications which
then could lead to a number of Specialists being sought with a predetermined outcome.
Only need one with a negative clearance report to have the club make a decision of not taking the risk of playing him

Its also a moral position - could be that the club is just trying to protect the player.

Of course. No one would want to see any player end up in a neck brace or worse resulting
out of a club going against Doctors advice and rushing him back playing.
This not only applys to him, a potential rising star, but any established first grader in the game who unfortunately has
suffered a similar predicament.
If I was on the Doggies board I would vote in favour of a non return.
But then I suppose it will all come down to a decision made in a legal report.

I trust our team to make the right decision. They would know the likelihood of his injury returning and its likely long term effect on his performance which are important to consider when deciding his future at the club.

Yes. I think the Doggies Legal Team, along with their Insurance Company have as much to say about him taking the field for us as Doctors.
The implications arising out of him leaving the field on a Medi Cab in a neck brace after a big hit on him would be huge.
Yes!

You have been wrong a few times from memory.
Me ? Dude the only one I was wrong is when their were late backflips after verbal agreements been made . From now on I’ll rephrase between signed and verbal agreement as it means f all these days .

That has alot to do with Shane Richardson being involved at NRL hq and helping his club Souths ... Dodgy fucker

This rumour has now lit up with plenty of smoke from multiple sources. I wonder if we will negotiate anything in return for his release. Hope he goes well at the dolphins

Tracey definitely doesn’t own it
Gus took the flight to Melbourne to try and sign Paps. We are trying to sign the backup fullback from Knights. Tracey will be 30 in 2026 he's 4 years older than Averillo who is still to hit his prime years.

You know nothing about who we are signing or trying to sign
