Brad Fittler has dropped a bombshell on the state of NSW by resigning as head coach of the Blues, just days after pitching to retain the role.

Brad Fittler has dropped a bombshell on the state of NSW by resigning as head coach of the Blues.
In a shock decision, Fittler has informed the NSWRL board and CEO David Trodden that he is walking away just six days after pitching to continue in the role.
Fittler’s boardroom bid to remain coach for the 2024 State of Origin series included an overhaul of his coaching staff and the inclusion of Phil Gould to replace Greg Alexander as his new senior advisor.

As first revealed by this masthead, the NSWRL board were aiming to make a call on Fittler’s future on Wednesday, but decided to press pause on the matter in order to dissect the incumbent coach’s plan in more detail.

The board were content to consider Fittler’s plan.

However, the coach phoned Trodden on Thursday to declare he was standing down.

The search for a new coach to restore rugby league state pride in NSW will begin immediately.

Ricky Stuart and Craig Bellamy will become instant targets of discussion for the NSWRL board.

Fittler took over NSW from Laurie Daley for the 2018 State of Origin series and finished with three series wins from six attempts.

After coaching his 18th Origin in Origin III this year, he finishes as the second most capped NSW coach of all-time behind Gould (24).

Fittler’s call comes just hours after Queensland announced an extension to the coaching tenure of Billy Slater for a further three years

Hahaha yes!!!! Yes!!!

3 years too late. Absolute joke of a coach, fuck off with the bare foot yoga.

Can’t get too carried away, knowing the Blues hierarchy they are infiltrated by QLDers and will most likely fuck up the next appointment and team selections again.

It's long overdue. Although knowing NSW they'll probably replace him with Fletch and Hindy to be co-coaches..
That was my first immediate thought besides celebrating. The Blues are a poorly run organisation, it’s jobs for the boys and out of depth appointments at every turn.

Nothing confirmed as of yet but seems very strange that he signed a year extension, added Ivan Cleary to his game day staff, then the day after Billy commits for three years, he pulls the pin.

I guess Brandy knew something and wanted out before the ship sunk...

As for who replaces him? There isn't a lot out there knocking the door down in reality. The only thing I'm certain needs to happen, is that the new coach needs to either be a full time coach or currently in the system. Freddy was too far removed from the game and was obvious he was out of his depth.

Maybe adding Ivan to his staff was a subtle hint....

Considering the talented players he had at his disposal, his dubious selection policies, his questionable tactics, and lack of success. His position became untenable as Blues coach, and in the end he had to go. Now the question arises, who replaces him? A current NRL coach, or a full time coach like Queensland has? I say the latter. But who?

Are there any other failed Roosters coaches the Blues can appoint?

Also this means Tedesco will be out and the Roosters pets like Tupou, Sualii, etc.
