Insurance is what will kill the EV a fire last week in China took out 5 other cars in a basement. Now the building wont allow EV to park in bment how do they charge the car
it’s a matter of time.. insurance companies won’t tolerate the big damage of an EV or the replacement cost if one is damaged in an accident.. they will absolutely sting the owner of an EV and force them to insure elsewhere or worse not be insured.

Watch this space… as an EV ages, all these hidden costs will come
Out of the closet and grab you

EV's have been in Australia for over 20 years. Lots more recently, but they've still been around for a long time.

Plus, you've seen all the stats showing that EV's are much less likely to catch fire than ICE vehicles.
Girlfriend had a LC Torana minor fire in engine bay I pissed on it to put it out I aint trying that with an EV.

Last Friday in a freak event, both me and my
Next door neighbour both took delivery of a new car..

I bought a brand new petrol Japanese car and he bought a Mercedes full EV… who did better?

my car, mazda has been made for decades and it’s known for its dependability, strong engine and great looks..

My neighbours Mercedes EV car just come out and he prob paid 2-3 times what I paid.. but he bought a dodgy EV and Mercedes aren’t known for their reliability especially an EV. How long will it take him to save that money? I say never as in a few years mime will resale for More than his. He buys an EV to say a buck but then goes and pays big overs for the car?

Who’s the better man? Who is the pumpkin head?

Insurance is a biggie because those batteries aren't cheap.

MG now smashing almost 25% of some EV model.

Resale value is going to be a bloody nightmare because newer models will come out with bigger and better batteries and you've got a 2 year old model thats dated badly.

petrol cars will be sought after as less and less of them are being produced.. I’d say my car will be worth more than my neighbours car in 5 years even though he paid 2-3 times more to buy..

a big pumpkin on his head

I'd stick with the Mazda IMO.

My Misses has the Mazda3 GT, awesome little care loaded with everything and reliable AF. Plus it's a good looking car, I like the short back and long bonnet.

they very nice cars. Those mazda
Skyactive engines will outlive the car…

EV cars will degrade themselves in range and performance

EV aside, Mercedes are overpriced for what they are. Most luxury cars are. I prefer Volvos over Mercedes, but they're still 20 years behind on the tech side.

Mazda are good if you take care of them.

As far as saving money goes, that's been covered in this thread way too many times but the basics of it is that EVs pay themselves off very quick if you have a sufficient solar/battery setup. Otherwise, probably not.

Relatively speaking, I don’t think Japanese cars have too many quality issues. Mercedes are just common cars in Europe, Australia pays big overs for them. Are they better? Probably but are they worth 2-3 times? I think no way

Mercedes are still made in Germany. Volvo on the other hand are now owned by China and largely made in China.
Aren't some Mercs made in Guatemala or they stopped that.

I think it was the ML models.

German cars are decent quality, but Toyota (Japan) is the undisputed leader of mechanical engineering.

Yeah, all vehicles do that. Mercedes primary factory is in Germany, but the cars are made in 22 different countries.

They all do it. Most Asian vehicles you buy in Australia are made in Asia. In other places they're made in the US, or Middle East, and generally lower quality than the Asian built versions.

years back I was test driving a VW polo GTi for a female friend. It was slightly used with a few thousand km.. whilst driving it, the seller says “you just can’t beat the Germans at making cars”… I said to him that could be true.. I have him the benefit of the doubt that he was talking about other cars as the polo GTi was made in Spain.

But Spain or anywhere else makes better cars than china.

Did anyone see that USA is banning Chinese EV’s? It’s a fair point as they could be used as a vehicle but could also serve a dual purpose to spy on Americans or detonate to blow someone up.. otherwise china could make them all inoperable and leave everyone stranded.

so china will just bombard Australia with cheap nasty built Chinese EV cars. We the suckers who buy them.
