It would be nice if he put on another 5kg. Only young. I would have him over Salmon.
He needs to have more than a defensive move needs to create opportunities we have a lethal line up and every move counts!!!It would be nice if he put on another 5kg. Only young. I would have him over Salmon.
Mann right now is the answer but isn’t getting any younger and his body is pretty bashed. Hayward is young and has a good temperament for the game which is hard to coach. I can see the upside with Hayward but perhaps needs to bide his time between NSW cup and NRL for another season.
I agree I wouldn't have Haywood, I'm saying yuck to Salmon though lol.
Todd.As average as he is, he is a versatile footballer that can do a job.
Ive said it for a while lock is a weak point. I'd give the job to Curran otherwise Marshall better come good. If not we need to go shopping.
I agree with you mostly. For these points;
- He needs to become a legitimate ball running threat. (I mean really threaten the line, break it and get some meat pies)
- He also needs to be able to put players into a hole ....direct run (Foz style) and then sweet service to a big forward running good angles/holes.
- He must have a decent tactical kicking game (give us a plan C ...when it is inevitably required).
So well said bro it’s true every bit you say id agree I just can’t see him in there unless he is 18th man but Wilson deserves a red hot crack good Underneath the highball and quick too we need speed which Wilson has and makes metres too..Hayward is tracking ok.
But, our expectations should be that he becomes a weapon within the 17, not just someone who maintains the status quo until the starters get back on the paddock.
At the moment he does these things well...
- slick passes out the back for shape
- great on the kick-chase
- confrontational first up front line defender (but like Mahoney - gets steamrolled by bigger blokes sometimes).
However, he needs to improve these areas of his game.
IF he develops these areas of his game, he could well become an outstanding #14.

At the moment, he's just an enthusiastic worker who has positional versatility as the ace up his sleeve.
The team requires more than that if we are gonna push for a premiership!
I think Tracey needs to have a backup and have Wilson there as he can play multiple roles every game Wilson played he scored he has a great step on him and speed and is good under the ball.. He has waited long enough and he would start to be getting frustrated he is a machine!!!I agree with you mostly. For these points;
The first one's not possible IMO unless he loses weight to gain agility, but then he couldn't play that lock role and would need to move to the halves.
The second might be possible if he's developed as a half, which doesn't look like Ciro's option.
The third is like the second.
Sounds like you see him as more of a half, but I think he's more of a hooker. I'd like to see play there in cup for solid stint. His body already suits the position, he can pass and defend, and you can see he's got some instincts for ball play which could be developed. I'm also not sure about Mahoney long term.
Hayes, Curran (or Hughes or Mann) and Sitili are on the round one bench IMO, and I can't see how Bailey gets in if a bigger player like Todd or Amone is ready to play. Salmon's gotta be behind all of the above!
That would be nice. At the moment he seems to do ok at leading the defensive line, I don't think CC has incorporated any attack in his game which hopefully he will change this year. I personally would like to see him come on for Mahoney to give him a break for at least 20-30 minutes rather than changing him for Mann. I think he is not big enough/strong enough for that role yet. Curran or Sitilli could potentially do that lock role to give Mann a break. He needs to have more than a defensive move needs to create opportunities we have a lethal line up and every move counts!!!

It's just someone needs to convince Mahoney that...Hayward
Agrred I think its big of an ask to have Mahoney going for 80 Minutes every week, would lile to see Hayward be given more time at 9
Yeah, I sort of see him as a half/hooker in the Ben Hunt style (long way to go - but he has time on his side & seems to be of solid character).
He and Mann really are utility type players (#14) and in good teams, maybe you only need one of those types of players, not two.
Which leads to our problem at Lock.
Some great NRL locks at the moment are Yeo, Murray, Radley to name a few.
Locks ideally have classy distribution skills to complement strong running games and they can hit like sledgehammer.
Not sure who has the best distribution skills at CB...and that means both long & short passing games, plus an ability to straighten the attack.
Interested to hear who Kennellers think is most qualified.??
(note : list does not include Mann or Hayward).
Just to kick off the debate (this is a wild guess - I have no idea how good they are as all-round ball players)... Hopefully others here do know.
- Todd
- Amone
- Sitili
- Curran
- Hayes
- Salmon
