Agree in principal of course.
A big problem with good chunks of Africa has always been education - getting people to understand why certain outcomes are important just as much as in some cases modifying behaviour is important. One example was AIDS. There were endless dumps of condoms and education programs on what they are, how to use them and why they’re important in helping stop spreading STI’s in communities rife with them. It wasn’t always successful. Covid could be similar in terms of stopping spread and getting vaxxed. And then there’s the corruption aspect the deal with. Not an easy problem to solve and they always seem to cop it.
Apparently it's a combination of things. The ones that want vaccines can't get them. The ones that can get them, don't want them. They're now at around 10% first vaccine.

The other problem is that virus mutation is most common in immunecompromised people. And Africa has the largest amount of immunecompromised due to the AIDS epidemic.

Nineteen people who attended the Melbourne “freedom” protests in November have tested positive for coronavirus, with one unvaccinated protester admitted to hospital.

5 confirmed cases now.

Japan has now closed borders to foreign entry.

Dr Angela Webster, Prof of Clinical Epideamiology, Uni of Sydney says it's very likely widely spread elsewhere bc new variant not specifically tested for but now scientist now going back to do further testing and ALSO due to extensive vax rate, people have not realised they had it and vax has protected them.

She's only a Professor.
Probably paid by big pharma.

I'll still believe her over Craig Kelly :grinning:

I dunno just yet big man.

So far reports suggest its far more milder than delta, with vaccinated being asymptomatic.

If so. Would be beneficial to let it spread tbh
Hope So bro. The government/media hasn't got a good track record at not fucking everything they touch.

Not for now but things can change quickly as we've seen plenty of times over the last two years..

My gripe is that we're still under plenty of restrictions as it is.. Look at schools for example. They've separated the years like it's cell blocks in prison now. One case and the whole class gets sent home for days til everyone's tested negative.. My daughter went to Orientation last week and they weren't allowed in classrooms and had to sit outside. If it was raining it was going to be cancelled. Just weeks before it wasn't going to be on at all. It's all overkill. Things like that are devastating to kids and the parents that have to home school because of one positive case.

No to mention we still have to check in everywhere, wear masks, show passports etc.. I went to Westfield with the missus the other day for Xmas shopping and had to do that 15 different times. It might seem like a small sacrifice but it's extremely annoying..

I also don't see the point at pubs, gyms, restaurants etc where you have to wear a mask when you enter and then as soon as you get in, you can take your mask off and potentially spread Covid all over the place.. None of those rules make sense.
I understand where you are coming from with schools as I work in one and all the kids are separated into stages but there is no distancing. It is one class per classroom meaning certain classes where a room would be shared in common are not running. Only teachers and admin have to mask up ( except high school where kids do too)

Rules for close contacts of confirmed COVID-19 cases in schools will shortly changed in NSW.
The NSW Government today announced close contacts of COVID-positive people at schools will no longer need to isolate from next Monday, November 29.
Here is everything you need to know about the new rules.

From November 29, students who are close contacts of a positive COVID-19 case will need to get a PCR COVID test as soon as they find out they're a close contact.
If the test is negative then the student can go back to school.

However, for seven days after that, the student will need to provide negative results from Rapid Antigen tests taken at home.

Restrictions on music have also been lifted with instruments relying on breath and singing allowed to go ahead outdoors.

The Omicron variant is the exact reason vaccines should have been shared..particularly with less developed nations.. not hoarded up by countries who could afford it.. We are talking about booster shots and they haven’t even had their first shots.. Regardless of this, just from a humanitarian point view, these countries should have been assisted by developed nations.. Things like this affect us all..we are all in it together..the virus doesn’t take notice of borders..
Exactly this.

We can control what happens in Australia to minimise the problem but we also have to have an equal and regulated response in other countries. Once we opened our borders the variants etc found their way in so just because we have a great vaccination rate it won't stop infection just lessen the severity of it.

Fingers crossed sis.

But you can understand if some of us are skeptical of anything any government says.
That has been trending on socials....not many saying they trust Hunt or Govts to be truthful and/or competent enough to put all necessary measures in place, or in good time :(

And until they are all called out, made to be accountable and transparent about all the decisions and their attitudes of superiority, then they all think we're mugs and treat us as such.

Id be interested in how much of an effort has been made..not just by Gates but developed nations as whole.. I mean developed nati themselves weren’t keen on ’sharing’.
