Previous Labor government are also to blame for lack of regulations in aged careFor those solely blaming Andrews for Victoria's death rate and the affect it is having on the country's economic outlook...pls read this.
I'm on my soapbox but decade after decade the aged care sector is underfunded and not adequately monitored or regulated.
Monitoring and regulating Aged Care is a Commonwealth Govt responsibility and so is social security payments to casual workers working across several facilities to try and earn a decent living wage, which has spread this infection to the vulnerable. It's the two biggest issues. The Feds are deliberately not publicly advising which aged care homes are infected...more worried, they admit, about reputational damage to the facility!
The other states will have the same problems unless that state of emergency payment is extended to all casual essential workers. Otherwise they will keep going to work to try and provide for their families....across all industries...including meatworks, transport etc.
Their employers are not checking their workforce strongly enough.
Stop solely blaming Government for individuals' and companies shortcomings and don't fall for the Murdoch twisting spin. For those saying this is a lefty news source. Yes probably categorised as that, but...these are the only media informing us of whats going on. Murdoch and 9 not giving balanced accounts of all the issues and only providing a witch hunt headline and article.
Us Bulldogs fans, more than most, know how that evil empire demonize those they choose to target.
St Basil's COVID outbreak took five days to reach federal government
Five days passed before the federal government was notified of a COVID outbreak at the St Basil's aged care home in Melbourne, a Senate committee has heard.thenewdaily.com.au
Definately. Not affixing blame to any political party. They are all as bad as one another.Previous Labor government are also to blame for lack of regulations in aged care
If its a Commonwealth Govt jurisdiction, what "meaningful" change can a State Premier legislate? When a Premier says, ‘I wouldn’t put my mother into a nursing home’. It begs the question, why have you not done anything about them before? Even if it is under the jurisdiction of the Federal Government, you should be still asking the question. As far as I’m concerned, the recent bungling down in Victoria, has proven to me, that most politician’s brains are so small, that if a hungry cannibal cracked their head open, there wouldn’t be enough to cover a small water biscuit...
Sorry..it does not compute..it’s called passing the buck. If I was Premier I’d be raising my concerns loud and clear..after all it’s in my backyard.. However, most politician’s heads are as empty as a eunuch’s underpants..If its a Commonwealth Govt jurisdiction, what "meaningful" change can a State Premier legislate?
It's like saying Gladys should now improve Border Force due to the handling of Ruby Princess or Anastasia should get involved in Manus Island refugee camps.
The Federal Govt and Morrison and Dutton would love the extra State involvement lol.
Further to the lack of transparency on the Ruby Princess matter Dawgfather. They refuse to allow commonwealth public servants to testify and PM and Dutton refuse to answer the issues raised and are far worse at being accountable than Dan Andrews ever was...but no Murdoch witch hunt. Why?Disgusting, I had no idea this had happened. I'm a conservative voter, but the idea that public servants should not be accountable to the public is ridiculous (no matter which side of politics does it).

For all the cuts to the basics the owners of these places don't seem to be doing too badly...Definately. Not affixing blame to any political party. They are all as bad as one another.
There's plenty of regulations tho.
There is not enough oversight. Facilities "warned" in advance when "on the spot" inspections are scheduled. There's a big rush to clean and replace, improve menus, uniforms, etc then back to normal when inspection passed.
Cutbacks that severely affect staff morale, food quality for residents, old sheets and towels, no time to adequately attend to health and hygiene. Cutbacks to amount of incontinence pads (under lock and key)...2-3 per 24 hr day!
Non English speaking helpers given too much responsibility.
You can't humanely run a nursing home using private contractors! and Govts don't care and happy to have the problem hidden.
These are your parents/grandparents and you, in the future.
Highlights the rip offs and look over there attitude of Govts doesn't it. So wrong and indicative of neoliberalism theory failure with aged care. For all the cuts to the basics the owners of these places don't seem to be doing too badly...
Are you sure it's not the best way to go?It’s also about the implementation.. I could say let’s got to Mars..but I decided to use a hot air balloon operated by a bunch of baboons wearing hats that read fly the friendly skies we will do it for bananas.. Nice idea, but no one really stopped and thought perhaps monkeys are not the best way to go..
Im off to the fruit market to buy some bananas! Are you sure it's not the best way to go?
There's only one way to find out.
Who's that bird? Would bangFor all the cuts to the basics the owners of these places don't seem to be doing too badly...
Who's that bird? Would bang
And this information of what conditions are like is not thoroughly reported in main stream media. Murdoch tells you nothing of this...yet goes on a witch hunt against the Vic Premier. Its only lefty or independent media who are exposing all of the shonky rorts.Aged-care moguls flaunted success before residents started dying
Aged care is a healthy business. Until they start rolling out customers dead on stretchers.www.dailymail.co.uk
