What the people in this forum who are against the sacking fail to understand, is these issues aren't black and white - anytime a player does something which brings the Club & NRL as a whole into a negative light, it has to be taken in the context of the issue itself. Any comparison is apples to oranges and is pointless debating. Is murder worse than attempted murder? Sure, however, both deserve to be punished.
If Jay and Corey met these high schoolers at a family friends Christmas party, then took them to a hotel room and that was the end of it, they probably do end up with a couple of months suspension and a community + code of conduct program before they're playing again in 2020. Hell, if that scenario never leaked, they'd been playing in round 1, as we're certain many other NRL players work their way through the endless list of groupies their level of celebrity attracts.
But that's not what happened.
Jay and Corey weren't on some road trip up to Port for a weekend of fishing and surfing on their own time. They were up there on club time, representing our club and the NRL, reaching out to regional centres (who have a pathway into our juniors that other clubs won't have the direct access to that we now do), spending time engaging with the community as part of the trial game with Canberra. They then took the opportunity, and in Jays case, leveraged his direct celebrity status as an NRL player, to not only get his dick wet, but with a high school girl for Gods sake, back at the club hotel room. Add in Corey using club provided accommodation as a means to help get his rocks off as well, after all the drama in the early 2000s with Coffs, that alone is just as bad as what Jay has done.
Also, can we please also stop comparing NRL players to your average Joe workplaces/ careers? Unless your work is televised internationally 4 days a week, with multi-billion dollar TV rights deals, direct and third-party sponsorships with direct community impacts (outreach programs and the like). And if this is the case, feel free to tell me about how you're comfortable letting your employees/ representatives of your league go into schools as part of the community outreach programs and take highschool girls back to the club hotel room for a root, and how you'll retain your sponsors, TV rights deals, etc because I'd fucking love to hear it.
