Opinion Burton.

We obviously did but if you guys won't even grant the kicking game then how do we agree on the rest?
Don't be like the others bro and try to twist shit to suit their agenda.

I have never questioned his long kicking game ever and obviously was missing yesterday with Sextons crappy long kicking.

In fact I even pointed out he was flexing hard as a 5/8th last week before his injury and just for his long kicking game.

Nothing is being twisted mate and I might be unfairly lumping you in with @Doogie.

The point is, if at bare minimum, we can't agree that we desperately missed his kicking game, there's no chance that we will agree that we missed the other parts of his game.

We have not seen Burton's best asset enough which is his running, as he can't really run on 4th as he has to setup for a tackle 5 kick.. yesterday you saw the reason why, Sexton can't kick a ball beyond 40m.

Get a proper halfback and Burton becomes a top three six in the NRL. Been saying it for 3 years.

Nobody with half a brain can deny his boot was definately missed against parra.

Dare I say it will be missed even more against the Sharts.

My main beef with Burton, everytime he runs he looks dangerous, but hardly runs.

So we only missed his boot? Did we miss anything else?

We missed him tackling bro, he's a big body and he's usually marked up against smaller halves, or does better against backrowers and slows the play the ball down in tackles.

His running game was missed, Hayward was passing inside for Curran to run onto, but it wasn't doing anything because the defence wasn't worried about Hayward running, Burton creates that doubt in the defensive line.

He was looking better vs Titans until the injury.

On the open market, the debate about what his value is, is up for debate. But for us and what he contributes, he's a major major asset for us, even if it's only his kicking game. His kicking game is on par with Cleary

Reason why I asked the question is because all I've heard is "his boot".

The same reason that they fail to mention is my beef with him, his running game. Threatens 8 out of 10 times when he runs, but we hardly see it.

What made it worse before his injury, he was living up to his hype in the 5/8th role. (Same with Kiks, was living up to his hype before injury)

But im just a hater.....

I think he would of gotten one of the kicks from the sideline that Critta missed
But going off the few kicks from Critta, Burtons kicks look "better", if you know what I mean.

But I guess with more kicking in game, Critta can fine tune his kicking.

I agree I would like to see him run a bit more. But with Kiks and Xeri outside him it’s better to pass the ball on to them most of the time. Especially late in the tackle count.

Always remember Burton is heavily marked by defenders. And most of the oppositions game plans would be targeting his side of the field. That helps to push opposition defences to our left leaving space on the right. It’s why our right side attack look great most of the time.

Having Kiraz back next to Critta then we are a threat on both sides.

Agree. If he runs too much more he takes out Kikau's threat. I'd like to see him run a little more, but not too much. I like Kikau with early ball and Xerri outside and Burton backing up inside. Then the occasional sweep, setting up left before going quickly right with the overlap and early ball to Critta

People praising Sexton's kicking game is fair, obviously not Burton standard but he was definitely effective. His defence was also commendable. But looking at the shape against Parra, surely he has to take some responsibility for that. Admittedly it was a tough game and we were dominated in many periods but there were only a couple of occasions I recall seeing threatening shape in our attack.
Is it not a 7's role to organise the attack? Perhaps all the posturing that was done with the toy soldiers in the lead up to the Parra game needs to be practised on the training paddock first.
I'm hoping our middles can create more space against the depleted sharks on Saturday otherwise I can't see Toby improving on that performance. I haven't given up on him I still hope he can turn it around but the signs aren't very encouraging.

Heard that one before 5 times. I show statistically how wrong that is and then you'll say eye test or some other waffle.

Facts are when Kiks plays - we're a top 5 team. When he doesn't we're a bottom 5 team. Irrespective of the koala.

At the moment we are top 2

23 - Koala all season but kiks missed 2/3rds of the season. 4th last.
24 - Koala all season and kiks played all but one game. Top 6.

And the only real diff between those 2 teams is Kurt Mann.

Anyways - back to more important topics. How much did you want to pay for my Sydney Harbour Bridge again? 8-) :tearsofjoy: :innocent:

You're saying that the only real difference between 2023 and 2024 is Mann signing and Kikau being healthy?

I suppose Crichton, Curran, Tracey, Xerri etc also being added to the squad made no difference?

Or the fact that we didn't have to rely on the likes of Okunbur playing 2nd row for weeks on end like we did in 2023?

I know you hate Burton, but to pretend that there was no difference between the 2023 and 2024 teams aside from Kikau being healthy and adding Mann is taking things a bit far.
