Being a Catholic Bulldogs supporter and Good Friday

Any members have 4 tickets they won’t be using this week? Looking to take my 2 year old boy to his first game. Happy to pay.

Why do people who believe some guy in the sky made the world in seven days (or six), & controls everything that happens in the world, think they have a right to intrude into the lives of others?
Especially with some of the horrible things happening around the world right now in the name of religion.
Just let the rest of us atheists enjoy rugby league in peace please.

Why do atheists believe they always need to comment on religious topics if it doesn't concern them thus intruding into the lives of others?

Just let the rest of us God fearing people enjoy our religion in peace please.

So as an athiest, you saw a thread title with "Catholic" in it but still opened it, had a whinge and insulted people who believe?

Then you ask for peace?

You need to keep evolving, monkey boy.

What's your point?

oh.. I get you, you want to have a rant about things unrelated to the thread or the game.

You could always attend the Accor Church of the Bulldogs one Easter? Sorry to be flippant. I do respect individual beliefs. Isn’t their morning or midnight mass, or is that just for Christmas?

Well, you could always have a radio in your pocket with a descret earpiece in, just don't shout "FUCK YOU C**T!" if the reff gives us a bum call...
"Hallelujah!" might fit in nicely at some point.

Every time we score, which is hopefully a lot shout “PRAISE JESUS” and the congregation will think “check out the godly dude over there”.

Some do no meat for 40 days. I just do fridays to.

I find this fascinating because as someone who’s family wasn’t very religious, but do honour some of the traditions, we would observe things like only eating fish on Good Friday. My dad was brought up Catholic, so he probably promoted it when I was younger, hut I don’t know if even he still follows it. I would think he probably does. I don’t tend to, although I often think about it around this time of year.

For those interested and unfamiliar with the practice:

During Lent, Catholics traditionally abstain from eating meat on Fridays, as well as on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, as a form of penance and reflection. This practice is rooted in the historical observance of Friday as the day Jesus was crucified, and abstaining from meat is a way to honor his sacrifice.

There are usually two services on Good Friday bro. The stations of the cross where the journey of the cross is re enacted - usually in the morning and by youth groups of the church. My daughter is Mary this year! Then there is a 3pm Passion of the Lord service where all reading are about the Passion. There is no Holy Communion consecrated on this day, there is a reflection on the crucifixion and you leave the church in silence. There may be more devout Catholics in here who can explain it better

As I said, I am not very religious but do find the observances and traditions fascinating. I’ve also been to St. Peter’s Basilica and other amazing cathedrals like Sagrada Familia, which are incredible and do inspire feelings of something greater beyond us.

I was also feeling sad when the Pope was in hospital recently. I’m amazed he recovered enough to be discharged tbh, but think he may have someone looking out for him ;)

There is no Mass on Good Friday as no Eucharist is celebrated. Although communion maybe given using the consecrated hosts from Holy Thursday.

On Good Friday Catholic and Orthodox churches simply offer services to commemorate the death of Christ with special prayers...e.g Stations of the cross etc.

Attending church on Good Friday isn't compulsory, it's not a holy day of obligation. Practicing Catholics and Orthodox members do not need to go to church on Good Friday. There is also no rule which says you can't go to the footy or watch footy.

Yep. I go for Stations of the cross in the morning. I always thought that 3pm is for veneration and for those who are not able to take part in the Stations.

As a Muslim, I couldn't go to Good Friday games in the last few years because of Ramadan.

And since it's Friday I'll be going to a mosque that is near the stadium and do Friday prayees there before I make my pilgrimage to ANZ Stadium.

In the US, I can't remember which stadium it is but they have a small chapel inside the stadium for Sunday services since NFL games are played on Sundays.

I am a member and go to most home games.

But I’ve never been to a Good Friday game and probably never will.

I’m a practicing Catholic and go to Good Friday mass every year at pm so it’s virtually impossible to ever go to a game which starts at pm.

Please tell me I’m not alone! It deadset pains me but my faith is extremely important to me (as are my beloved Doggies).

Note: I’m extremely tolerant and welcoming of all religions and of those who are not religious. Please keep this thread civil.
