In weedlers article today
The other leading figure in the push for mandatory vaccination has been new Bulldogs general manager of football Phil Gould. Canterbury emailed all their players to say they expected them to be double-vaxxed. That has not gone down well with some.
Luke Thompson wants to put off being vaccinated for as long as he can. Meanwhile, recruit John Asiata is prepared to walk away from rugby league rather than get the jab because members of his family have had a reaction to vaccinations in the past. He is not holding out to be defiant or to cause trouble for the club. Rather, he understands the need to be vaccinated to play, he understands the price he will pay and he has no intention of causing any trouble.

Warrior Addin Fonua-Blake has also been struggling with the idea of getting vaccinated, and his reasoning has merit after one of his children had a bad reaction to being inoculated in the past. The Warriors have been talking to him and, given he is their key forward, are anxious to sort out the matter as soon as possible.

I thought Thompson has since been vaccinated or was in the process of getting vaccinated?

It's a shame Asiata is insisting on not getting it. He would have known that was a requirement before signing. That's his right though, and if he keeps that stance, then we'll just use his roster spot on another forward.

Thompson i thought got the jab. If he hasn’t then he can leave and we can maybe look at whats off contract for forwards 2022. He is on overs and has always been out for half a season so bye bye

Would definitely use thompson and asiata money on jack williams, hamlin-uele from the sharks on a cheaper deal rather than an expensive forward like paulo and get a backrower like then use the rest to upgrade players that are solid through the juniors which has always been gus’s thing at most clubs. This can be our forward pack if we get those players for 2023 8. TPJ 9. Cook 10. Hamlin-Uele 11. Hetherington 12. Doorey 13. Topine. The future looks good in hands

Why wouldn’t the club have asked him his views before we signed him ?
Yeah. Pretty fucking bizarre if this is all true. How long ago did we sign him? A month or so? It's not like they couldn't see this on the horizon?

Fucking hell. Let's see how much of this is true or not but ... fair play to him for backing up what his beliefs are. Give him credit for that.

I hold a decent amount of scepticism about any article that holds no direct quote. Rather than getting into a state of outrage about something that might not be true we should just let the club deal with club matters. Because as we saw with the older story about Thompson and his supposed anti vax stance, it was a storm in a teacup which the club dispelled.

The greater problem Howie...
Why isn't there a clear and unified rule from the NRL for all clubs to follow ?
And why is the National Rorts League leaving clubs to deal with these issues separately ?
Couldn’t agree more. I can only assume some kind of legal issue but the NRL still need to grow a pair.

No vax, no play.

Because the NRL understand the possible legal implications and are gutless, leaving the clubs to thier own devices.
