Must have been a special occasion on the harbour judging by the crowds on the ferry. She is not leaning due to a swell, but from the crowd surging to one side. That is how the "Rodney" turned over and sank.

It's amazing that I look at that photo from over 100 years ago and know exactly what it is today. Those buildings in the background are where the AMP tower is now, and Circular Quay station is just in front of it now on Alfred Street.View attachment 37387

HMAS was first used in 1911, the same year that the name Royal Australian Navy was granted official approval from King George V.Was the pic pre-federation?
As i recall we relied on the Poms until the lead up to WW1 for a navy....hence HMS rather than HMAS..
