Nathan Brown would be worse than some of the duds we have now. No thank you..

Lindsay Smith should be a target for 2025. Try and sign him November 1 with an offer that Penrith can't match.
Lindsey Smith is Tolman 2.0. We certinly need someone in this mould to sort out our middle. Hopefully he’s a priority

The reason the Panthers system works is because they grew up together, have played the same system for years & have Cleay-Luai in the halves controlling everything. You can't duplicate their system, you need your own system. CC is trying to play their system with lower level players. It ain't ever going to work.

We also need to stop overpaying for players. It'll take us longer to rebuild if we continue overpaying.

No thanks to Nathan Brown. Bloke is getting old and is always dropping the ball before getting tackled. McLean is 1 year away from retiring.

Go hard for Moeaki Fotuaika. He’s 23 and has hit his prime. Metre eater and is an actual prop.

Seems from this article Gus is out of ideas / answers.

With everything that unfolded today this is the only plan I can think of. Remember how desperate we are before you criticise.

For 2024 Jordan McLean and Nathan Brown for 1 year only. We need a prop and lock the most (besides a star 7) and yes we're scrapping the bottom of the barrel. McLean is a big body at 118kgs. Brown can hit hard. We need to toughen up our D.

This November for 2025 we need to make Moeaki Fotuaika and Keaon Koloamatangi (to play middle) our top priorities. It's absolutely imperative we get at least 1 of the 2. If we miss out on one then consider Braden Hamlin-Uele and Lindsay Smith. If we can't get something of this quality we're f..ked yet again in 2025 IMO.

I'd also consider Jamal Fogarty for a 7. Also the English halfback is available for 2025 from memory. How's he going lately ?

For 2024 finally hire a f..king full-time specialist halves AND a dedicated kicking coach.

Teach Burton a passing game, better placement with his kicks and tell him if he's gonna kick it don't be a pussy and f..king boot it as high as you can each and every time OR you'll be f..ked off to centre quicker than you can say "suck shit". I'd actually seriously consider playing him centre anyway from the start of the year because it's going to take a while for Xerri to learn the game again in NSW Cup especially in defence.

Always play JAC left wing only. Bring Skelton in on the right. We need a big body to start off sets well from our own end. He's a tackle busting machine.

Play Crichton at fullback and in pre-season and trials try both Taaffe and Sexton at 7 (maybe BBO also). Taaffe was a NSW under 19's rep 7 a few years ago remember. Oloapu at 6 with more freedom given by Ciraldo to play his natural game

Move on RFM, Sutton and Perham who should never see first grade nor block the pathway of Joash Papalii in our NSW Cup team. Medically retire SST the second he's injured in any way shape or form.

Hire an experienced tough assistant coach (to replace Potter) who can actually motivate our players and teach some set moves in attack.

Gus tells Ciraldo to ease up on the Panthers defence system until we get a team full of smarter and more talented players. Go back to sliding D. We're not the Panthers.

Scout a couple of "fit" big body props currently playing lower grades for our competitors. Players looking for a break.

Interested to read your plan
Not the worst plan I’ve heard - reasonable in my eyes.
There’s a few ways to tackle it:
1) get some experienced 100+ gamers from good systems to come in and teach professionalism and set standards.
2) go all in for one or two marquees in key positions - thinking halfback Hunt and Prop Fotuaika
3) considering every club appears to be locking away their guns, there’s an opportunity to poach the best crop of rising stars in the hope 2 or 3 turn out to be élite footballers sprinkled in with some old heads to assist the NRL journey

Average middles/ defensive efforts would have prevented the first two Newcastle tries - need middles desperately.

Ideally someone like M Foatueika or Paseka - maybe both Titans n Manly have cap issues given they have multiple million dollar players
Maybe players like Mclean from NQ, Keppie, Sipley from Manly on one year deals - pretty sure that middle forwards rotation of King Patolo Sutton Hughes Hopoi RFM is not going to win many sets of 6 with or without the ball.

Might even be better off paying using part of TPJ money to pay out the contracts of guys like Hoffman Topine BBO - they are not going to turn the club areound and invest in more middles and hope one otr two steps up.

We have our halfback as far as I can see. Sexton is the man and will have the job for the next 3 seasons I reckon. Gould made an interesting point on 100% footy. All these young halfbacks that have made their way in and out of first grade over the last 5 years, they will go on to be the main group of halves over the next 10. Even if some young gun springs up out of nowhere, like a Sam Walker for example when he made first grade a couple seasons ago, they still take time to be genuine first grade halfbacks.

There are 8 real top quality halfbacks in the game:
1 - Cleary
2 - Hughes
3 - Hynes
4 - Moses
5 - Reynolds
6 - Hunt
7 - DCE
8 - Johnson

5 through to 8 will all be gone in 2 years time. So in 2026, either only 4 teams will have quality halfbacks, or guys like Sexton, Ilias, Walker, Boyd, Fogarty, O'Sullivan, Hastings, etc would have made the step up. Very unlikely some young unheard of player will be in that top tier.

So for now we have Sexton and if i'm Gus and Cirro, i'm building the rest of the team up to help get the best out of him. Which means we need to invest as best we can into some real quality middle forwards. Then we need to identify the best young half at the club and help them become the best they can be. So is that Hayward or Biondi-Odo? We also have to scout and be ready to pick up the best young talent when they become available. Any good young halves in the junior systems of Penrith, Storm, Parra and Cronulla know they have no future there and will be on the look out for another club. But these kids will be at least 3 years off from really being ready for first grade. I'm not saying they wouldn't be able to play NRL and play well but they wont be top tier halves.

Gus has been on the rebuild really for this season only. A few players haven't hit the mark and senior guys have been injured a while. The neglect for recruitment, retention and development has been a fail for a decade. Can't fix that in 1 ,2 or 3 yrs but changes are happening in the junior recruitment and development now we have to see what happens in the next 12 to 18 months on the restructuring of the top grade. We don't know what happens at training with how the guys are training , so many names and opinions on selections but some may be bad trainers or bad attitudes where the good trainers are getting the call up but aren't delivering yet but with the long term plan set they maybe part of the future and this pain is part of development. Gus n CC are smart enough to know their reputation and credibility are in the line here so Im happy to see what comes from this adversity next year.
