Garry died at the very young age of 30 in a car accident, very sad.
I was fairly young and don't know why he left but he could have won a comp in 1980 too.
I think he went pretty well at Parra, scored 23 tries in 37 games.
And played for the Kangaroos

Also forgot Jamal Lolesi. Very decent centre for us that didn't break the bank. Was sad he didn't get to play in the GF in 04 due to injury

I have a few that our club should never have gotten rid of:/ or didn’t try and keep- Johnathan Thurston, Damien Cook - for starters. Thurston will end up an Immortal and Cook would’ve solved all our issues in regards to a gun hooker.
Ben Barba, Thurston, Cook, The Morris brothers, j Reynolds, SBW, Enis, James Graham, Fenucen, Willie Mason, Kris Keating, Braith Anasta, Jamal Idris, Martin Taupau, Roy Asatasi, Nick Meanie, Rona, Remis Smith, Read Mahony, James Fenie, Chris Mortimer, Sean Lane, Cameron Munster, Steve Price, Jim Dymic, J Mcracken, N Cotric

Can any other team boast that list of greats lost :(

Hopefully from now on we handle it like Melbourne copied off us.

Develop and replace near on like for like and players let go after they peak to get 4 year lucrative contracts to help stabilise poorer clubs and set themselves up for retirement....then come back as old boys to help the up and comers and help retain the Bulldogs culture.

The league should do more to support teams that develop players in retaining them. Players who first debut for their club, should be discounted on their salary cap after 5 years. (Say 25%). Players who have been with the same club for say 10 years, perhaps 75%.
This will give incentive to develop Players & not raid other clubs & also allow one-club players & opportunity to finish their at the same club.

Really advantages the clubs with huge junior areas and disadvantages those with small (or none). There are negatives, for example do we really want to give Penrith an even bigger advantage, their huge junior area plus discounts of the Cap? We possibly would not have Burton in that case, or Kikau, or Mahoney. Of course there are positives, the Chooks would be farked.

Always a Bulldog

Good point. Any suggestions to keep the principle of the idea yet not further advantage Penrith, Broncs etc

Half the people mostbof you mention left off thier own terms for better money / oppurtunity. There is very few listed that the club did not try to keep.
