Top 4 HB are Cleary, DCE, Hughes and Sam Walker. Reynolds and Moses nowhere near their level and Chooks were never a chance to win this year when Walker got injured.
Reynolds has played in multiple grand finals, is a premiership winner and played SOO. Moses led NSW to a series victory from one nil down to win in QLD in game 3 and is a Daly M halfback of the year.

Sam Walker despite showing real potential hasn’t done anything yet so his name doesn’t belong alongside guys like Cleary and Hughes.

I reckon the Roosters realise this and like how they dumped Mitch Pearce for Cronk would be wondering if he’s the right guy to lead them to a premiership.

Perhaps that why he’s still unsigned. Maybe they think they can get someone like DCE or Reynolds there for a season or two before they retire and win a comp.

Moses played one good Origin game from how many? Hasn't done much in a parra side that was well stocked for years.
Reynolds is on his last legs and would be lucky to last another season and snowflakes chance in hell that the Chooks would want to sign him.
Look at the difference between the Chooks side with and without Walker. Even in a side stacked with superstars how did the Chooks go when Flanno/Lam/Hutch were HB compared to Walker?
Walker's defence is his weak point but compare his vision, creativity and the amount of tries he sets up compared to Moses, Reynolds etc.
The reason he is unsigned is he wants to test the market and wants 1.4M+.

In club football can't disagree and it's all about winning games for your club.

Walker is more important to the Roosters than all the high level rep superstars they have.

Tedesco produces a lot of cheap stats against average teams and bullies on them. He doesn't have a great record against Melbourne or Penrith and his last few Origin games weren't that good.

Reynolds was there last year he's now past that line. Same as Hunt just gone past the peak line.

For any club to ever want to prize Nathan Cleary they would need to offer Ivan the coaching position.

So it's throw everything at Ivan to get Nathan or stick by Sexton and Woods.

In about 2-3 years Walker could be the next big thing and may well be the QLD halfback but at this stage he's just a tier below the guys with
"runs on the board" like DCE, Hughes, Cleary and Reynolds.

Clubs would be crazy to sign him on 1.4 considering he hasn't done anything yet besides show some potential.

To put it in perspective, Nathan Cleary is on 1.2 and is an established rep level player with multiple grand finals under his belt.

Are you saying he's on that level?

So again, to my previous post the elite halfbacks are the guys that are proven rep level players and/or grand final winners like DCE, Hughes, Cleary, Reynolds and Moses (assuming they're all healthy).

Then there's Ben Hunt..

And a tier below that there's guys like Sam Walker, Sexton and Katoa who have shown potential but aren't quite there yet.

Very simple,
We have had great success in buying halfbacks at the end of their careers.
AKA Ricky Stuart and Brett Kimorley!
So buy Ben Hunt FFS but on a 2 year deal only with an option to join the coaching staff after that!
Let sexton go!!!!!! He is going to secure his future elsewhere!
We must resign Taaffe at the least and Hutchinson!
Woods is not far away!

Why would hunt stick around for a role at the club when he's a Queenslander and will be most likely be going back there at the end of his career.

If we somehow do get hunt he's not sticking around after his contract finishes

Is Ben Hunt really that good a halfback? If he was surely the Dragons would have been more successful in his time there.

I know he looks great playing for QLD but that's at hooker.

Maybe I don't watch enough of watch enough of the Dragons games but personally I wouldn't be getting rid of Sexton to sign Hunt...

Toby has played a half a season for the Titans and came in half way through the season for us as well. Give him a full pre season with Burton and he'll improve.

Would not make it in today game
Passenger
That's obvious, he's not a running HB... Most if not all non running HB can't survive in modern game. Doesn't mean he didn't play his role well in his era

Keep dreaming. Reynolds is on his last legs and Moses is nowhere near Cleary, DCE and Hughes. Souths won 2014 GF because of its star studded roster GI, Burgess brothers and Keary plus it was rigged by the NRL. Take those players away and Reynolds wins no comps at all.
Moses is a fair weather hero and nothing more. Goes missing in big games. He will never win a comp. He had 1 good Origin game and you elevate him to elite status.

So let me get this straight... You think Sam Walker is an elite halfback in the NRL Moses is shit.

Moses who won an origin series decider in QLD from 1 nil down is an achievement not even Nathan Cleary has been able to do. For all his club success he's never been able to win an origin series. And you think Moses won it by luck? Or was that rigged too?

I must be missing something but remind me what Sam Walker has done?

Teams that have won premierships in the last decade or two have all had a dominant halfback with the only exception being Chad Townsend. I can't see us winning with Sexton, unless Burton was a dominant 5/8th who could carry a team like Fittler,Lockyer, etc. Both our halves are offsiders.

For some reason I can't see Ben Hunt being that guy, he just strikes me as mentally weak ever since the 2015 GF.

Cleary never won an Origin series? Nonsense. He won Origin in 2019 and 2021.
What has Moses done at club level in all his years in the NRL?
Moses played 1 good Origin game = Cleary, DCE and Hughes status in your eyes. Keep dreaming in your Moses fantasies.
22 year old Sam Walker has been a key factor in winning more games at NRL club level than 30 year old Moses ever has.
