Hooker is the biggest concern, followed by edge forwards and strike in the centres.

I have to agree with a few statements here. We need a live wire in the hooker spot. When you see the quick scoops from dummy half it gets your team rolling up the paddock. However... look at how atrocious we are in the opposition 20 and the threat from kicks which is non-existent. Horrible kick and horrible chases makes me also think we need a dominating half in that.

So conclusion 7 and 9...

Then i'd sack Elliot and grab Pearce
I agree that Flanagan and Elliot are both a waste of cap space. It's unfortunate because together they will be using up around $800.000 for the next 2 years with zero return IMHO.

Let's be honest, Flanagan will again be starting halfback in 2020. Gus has pretty much said it. So that means we have a future rep player in Burton, X factor in Dufty and TPJ, some grunt up the middle in Vaughan, and a kicking target in Naden. The doggies in 2022 will be full of potential and individual brilliance, but we lack a real general. Like Graham was, we need someone who isn't afraid to give out a spray and get the boys in line. Whether we can find that in Thompson is unknown but I feel it's a priority we need to address.

Then we have the hooker problem. It's embarrassing how a stopgap hooker in JMK became our first choice week in week out. One part of me would like to see Josh Cook have a go, but he's still very young. Another part of me likes Josh Hodgson. Although he's said to be a waster product at the green machine, I feel he'd provide stability and a strong voice in the middle third. He also doesn't just hand the ball to Floppas' side.

Thoughts on any other options?
I would like Josh Hodgson at hooker. An old competitive stubborn head in the middle would balance the team out. Also need a new halves partner for Burto. Those 2 positions sorted and we become boarder line top 8.

The good thing about Flanagan starting next to Burton next year.
Flanagan will look better and be easier to offload.
At the moment. the old sweat shops in Parramatta wouldn't touch him.

If we are going for quick succes I think we need either an experienced 9 or 7. Someone like Josh Hodgson would be ideal really, he takes a lot of kicks for the raiders, which gives you another option outside the halves plus very experienced. I would make him captain. It would be a good trade Elliot out Hodgson in max 2 year deal.

Ive given up hope in Brandon Smith. However if we got him and freed up more cap space and got Mitchell Pearce I think we could be a top 4 team if they gelled quickly, think 2009. Anyway just my opinion.

In saying this it seems we are going for a longer term strategy with Gould
on board. We are all so impatient for improvement, I want to be successful next year! It’s probably better to play the long game though, Im glad I dont have to make these decisions.

Doubt Flanagan will even be with us next year tbh. We just need a good hooker and we’ll survive, I think we’re more desperate for a 9 than a 7. The modern game relies on having a good dummy half that’s smart around the ruck and we don’t
Joshua Cook could be ready for first grade. I've read that he would have debuted for the Bunnies this year if he wasn't injured (and stuck behind Damian Cook)

There's one thing the Bulldogs are lacking in 2022. Everything.

Regardless it’s going to be better then this year, let’s hope we get a good draw early on and can get some confidence...

And guys I'm new where did nasheed go
He's gone? He's either banned yet again or he on his favourite Souths forum being a Rabbitohs supporter.

Welcome to the club! Oh & you have to pick Flanagan & / or Okunbor to abuse regularly. And stay away from mentioning Adam Elliott to @utility half. He's just upset that he wasn't in the cubicle with Elliott last week. A good guy though. :grinning:

Our options for 7 next year as it stands.
Flanagan
Averillo
Wakeham
BBO

BBO has potential but isn’t ready for the full time gig at 7. I think with a season in the 14. He is a very good prospect moving forward.

Flanagan might play better surrounded by better players but I’m not convinced. His vision for a halfback is poor. His kicking game for a half back is poor. His defence isn’t great. He is a good goal kicker.

Averillo put simply is not a half. He doesn’t organise. His kicking game isn’t good. Defensively he is ordinary at best. He is a runner. I’m not sure why he wasn’t given a run at fullback this year? I think he is a natural centre with the ball but his defence is not close to being a first grade centre in the NRL.

Wakeham is the best defensive option in this group of players. He has some XFactor qualities without being anything that special.

With the current list for me it’s.

6. Burton
7. Wakeham

14. BBO
With signing so many players, there are a few players who got time this year who will spend necessary time in the reserves getting the development they should have gotten over the last 2 years. That is unless we are still shut down from COVID. :(
