well, because Orban is Hungarian... a small, landlocked former East European state that is now in almost open revolt of the EU
the initial former Warsaw Pact members that became EU and NATO members and in particular, Hungary and Poland, were seen as success stories politically, socially and in particular, economically... so much so, that other East European nations saw the EU as a salvation of sorts... but schisms developed between West and East EU members with the migrant crisis with Poland and Hungary openly stating that their countries were for their people and we have now seen internal fights between the EU and Poland and Hungary as to let's call them standards the EU demands as well as judicial supremacy over EU states... this has led to the EU withholding funds - in effect, sanctioning - Hungary and Poland... now with the Russian invasion of Ukraine, we have seen a split between Hungary and Poland and the effective end of the Visegrad Group because Poland has taken a very anti-Russian position whereas Hungary has taken a middle position because they are so dependent on Russian energy
and then, in attempt to replace Orban, a coalition of 6 opposition parties (I think) ran against him in elections earlier this year and he still won and then in a victory speech called it a victory over the domestic left, the international left, the mainstream media, George Soros, the Brussels beaucrats and ultimately, even the Ukrainian President
so many forces at play
