Nope. We must listen to the current advice if it's based on current research.

Also...

No, the WHO didn’t change its lockdowns stance or ‘admit’ Trump was right
  • President Donald Trump’s statement was based on a short video clip of an interview with Dr. David Nabarro, a special envoy to the World Health Organization. The clip didn’t include the full context of Nabarro’s comments.
  • The WHO has consistently stated throughout the course of the pandemic that lockdowns should be employed only when COVID-19 cases are high, to give governments and health systems time to reorganize efforts. They should not be the primary strategy to combat COVID-19 transmission.
  • The WHO has acknowledged since the spring that lockdowns have economic consequences for localities and nations.
Using politifact to support an argument is like the Chinese getting a government agency to confirm whether or not it is ok to mistreat muslims. Of course they will find a way to justify it lol.

Politifact provide full sources for their information and the WHO has been providing that information all along. It was only far right wing sources that were pushing the fake news about the WHO.

How about the Associate Press then?

THE FACTS: They’re twisting words out of context. WHO has not shifted its position that national stay-at-home orders or “lockdowns” should be considered a measure of last resort to contain the virus. Nor did it ever declare that Trump “was right” on his COVID-19 response.

“We have been very consistent from the beginning on this pandemic,” WHO spokesman Tarik Jasarevic told reporters Tuesday. “National lockdowns shouldn’t be the default control measure, but movement restrictions may be among a range of measures governments can consider in certain geographical areas.”

so we must always listen to ‘authoritative sources’ even though they are regularly wrong.
Lol

It’s not unusual to be wrong about a pandemic of such a huge scale that leaders and authorities have no real experience managing a similar situation. The key is being able to admit when you’ve made a mistake and adapt your approach accordingly. It is Trump’s complete refusal to do this thst made his handling of COVID so unforgivable and disastrous.

There are more than a few countries worse off than america per capita.

Also, any discussion of America needs to consider that state authorities have almost all the power when it comes to restrictions from a health perspective. Presidents have little power. Which is also why Biden will be inconsequential for the management of the virus.

Yeah, sure.... deflect to other countries which are less equipped to deal with a situation.

Trump encouraged large groups of anti maskers to ignore state laws to protest measures mandated by Democrat governors. Trump (the most influential man in the country at the time) said covid was no worse than the flu and encouraged supporters to not take it even remotely seriously. Trump caught the virus himself and used his recovery to promote the narrative that covid was no big deal and easy to recover from even though he recovered with the help of treatments only a select few privileged officials had access to. Trump insisted on hosting super spreader event after super spreader event in the lead up to the election and beyond and insisted his supporters turn up to vote in person at the polls and this approach coincided directly with a huge spike in cases around the country.... but sure, none of this is Trump’s fault .... not at all. Blame the states. Lol

Not one state in the country mandated that citizens could not wear masks in public, or socially distance. Not one person in the country is more responsible for the public health cluster fuck over there thsn trump.

A man charged with murder in a shooting at a Minnesota medical clinic bought the handgun he used in the attack with a permit from the local police department, even though he had been the subject of a restraining order for threatening the clinic in the past, according to a published report.

Gregory Ulrich, 67, is charged in an attack on an Allina Health clinic this week that left 37-year-old medical assistant Lindsay Overbay dead and four other people wounded. Ulrich had threatened in October 2018 to carry out a mass shooting at the clinic in Buffalo.

The threat led Ulrich to be banned from clinic property, and the following month a restraining order was granted to prohibit him from contacting a doctor at the clinic. The order also required Ulrich not to possess guns and to turn in any guns or permits he had.

But the Minneapolis Star Tribune, citing a law enforcement source it didn't name, reported on Friday that the Buffalo Police Department had granted a permit for Ulrich to buy the handgun used in the attack. Even though Ulrich had been arrested for violating the restraining order, the newspaper reported that the permit was granted because the case was dismissed due to mental incompetency.

State law appears to clearly prohibit Ulrich from obtaining a permit to purchase a handgun. The statute bans anyone who has ever been found incompetent to stand trial from buying or having a gun. The statute does allow for some instances where a person could recover the right, but they don't appear to apply to Ulrich's case.

Buffalo Police Chief Pat Budke declined to answer questions from The Associated Press about the report, saying in a statement that the city cannot release information on gun permit applications.

Ulrich’s harassment case includes a notation from a court services agent in June 2019 that said Ulrich had applied for a “permit to purchase” and that approval was pending. The agent said he “highly recommended” against allowing Ulrich to have any weapons. A psychological evaluation was ordered, and in April 2020 the case was dismissed with a prosecutor saying Ulrich was found “mentally incompetent to proceed.”

The USA takes stupid to a whole new level. How can this happen?

Asian-American woman severely assaulted on New York street as US hate crimes continue to rise - ABC News

An Asian-American woman has been attacked on the streets of New York City by a man who repeatedly kicked her in front of witnesses who seemingly stood by, according to surveillance footage.

In the latest incident, the woman was walking in midtown Manhattan when a man came up to her and kicked her to the stomach, knocking her to the ground.

The NYPD said the man then stomped on the woman's face several times while hurling anti-Asian sentiments at her.

He later casually walked away, the footage shows.

Two questions, why is the woman referred to as an "Asian American" and not just an American? And where were all the goodie two shoes with their guns and courage?

I think they refer to her as "Asian-American" because she was targeted due to her Asian ancestory. Unfortunately anti-Asian crimes are on the rise in America. But that happens when you have a world leader calling the Coronavirus "China virus"
