Huni vs Gallen: Glove Drama Threatens Heavyweight Showdown

A glove drama is threatening the heavyweight blockbuster between Justis Huni and Paul Gallen, with Huni's camp prepared to walk away from the bout altogether.

Huni has a sponsorship deal with Adidas and wants to wear a pair of the company's foam and horse-hair composite gloves.

Gallen is sponsored by Everlast and is intent on wearing a pair of the brand's foam-padded Powerlocks.

Combat Sports Authority regulations in New South Wales state both boxers must wear the same pair of gloves.

Adidas is willing to pay both fighters to wear their gloves, while Huni's dad and trainer, Rocki, says Justis will wear Gallen's preferred glove if Everlast equals what Adidas are prepared to offer.

While Rocki says he's willing to fight in Everlasts, he says Gallen is refusing to budge.

"Justis' sponsors have agreed to pay $5,000 to Justis and $5000 to Gallen to wear their gloves," Huni told Sporting News .

"If Gallen wants to fight in Everlasts, and wants us to fight in Everlasts, that's fine. But just pay us what the sponsors were going to pay us to fight in their gloves. That's it.

"He's going to walk out of this deal with more than $1.5million, I don't see why he's upset with $5000. It doesn't make sense."

Rocki said he's prepared to walk away from the fight if the issue isn't resolved.

"If he's not willing to move, I'd sooner forget this fight and focus on the Olympics," he said.

"It's a deal-breaker, because Gallen's a hungry little pig who says he's not worried about the money, but doesn't want to move on the gloves.

"We'll fight in his gloves, but just pay us what the sponsors are going to pay us.

"At the end of the day, if he doesn't want to pay, we'll walk away and he can find someone else to fight.

"We'll just focus on the Olympics, and I can guarantee you that if Justis goes over and wins gold, there's no way we'll be fighting Gallen when we get back."

It's just the latest drama to befall the heavyweight showdown, scheduled for June 16 in Sydney.

In a heated build-up lasting well over a month, Gallen has engaged in a war of words with Rocki and Huni's promoter Dean Lonergan.

At one point, Gallen threatened to walk away from the bout over location issues, and the former New South Wales captain was unhappy that Huni had a fight with the dangerous Christian Tsoye just three weeks before his own fight.

Floyd to make it look like it’s even then when he’s ready he will take over. This fights a farce basically
I agree but I respect them both if they are going to get big dollars for it good on them. I actually kind of want to watch it just to see how funny it is but it’s on like 10:30am this morning. I would love to see either one of them get knocked out.

I won’t pay to watch this rubbish but they’ve sure hyped it up well. Mayweather is just too experienced and clinical
