I have a relative who wants to remain in the trade as a carpenter. He has pain in one knee.

Has any one had experience with stem cell knee treatment or know of someone who has? According to this article, it prolonged Trent Hodkinson's career.

https://www.sportsmedbiologic.com.au/stem-cells-origin-rugby.html

Strange how the human body can heal broken bones but something like cartilage cannot be repaired as far as I know... I find it hard to believe that knee replacements are still an option in this day and age. Any info would be appreciated.

Aaron Woods had it done as well in 2014.

I'm not sure it technically prolonged either of their careers.

After the op Hodko was never the same. At Manly he struggled to get his knees right. For the Dogs and Knights he had constant knee issues. He was average at the Sharks, and just as average at Manly, and now moves across field like a crippled 90 yr old with a walker. His lateral movement is non existent. 4 years on he's struggling to keep in NRL with only mass injuries saving him.

Woods was shit and is still shit.

I guess it depends what is wrong with his knees, what the options are, and what his surgeons think are the best options.

Just take plasma injections it works wonders.
I sell all that equipment and I don’t promote it. I tell the Dr’s it’s a load of shit especially for OA (osteoarthritis) and they still use it. It’s a great little money earner for them. That’s the only person benefitting is them

So what your saying plasma injection doesn’t work?
I know a lot of people that recover after the injection.

Has a higher success rate in soft tissue injuries and the theory for that makes sense as Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) tries to initiate an inflammatory response to accelerate healing. In my opinion it’s the repeated injection of the needle into the injured site, basically the same as dry needling, that aids in recovery. Chondral bone (cartilage) is a specialised cell which means once it is damaged it can’t grow back for that reason it makes no medical sense that by injecting PRP it will help grow something back that can’t be replaced

Ok fair enough,
What about HGH? You know much about it’s heeling effects?

That’s another kettle of fish altogether. Its like anabolic steroids ... so many compounds that have different indications. They have fantastic restorative results but I’m not sure whether they are permanent

Thanks bud it’s good to know cause I tore my bicep and the first thing I got told was plasma injection, would’ve set me back $250 .
But then was told HGH was also good to heel and rejuvenate damage muscle.
That would set me back $600 for 30IUs.

Isn't HGH completely illegal in Australia?

I think it’s more placebo than anything else.
Don’t go by what footy players are having done. Clubs will tell players anything to keep them on the field and players will tell themselves anything to hang on to the dream. I’m on my second knee reconstruction (Medial and PCL) and 4th knee surgery (a cleanup and both meniscus’s removed), and every doctor I’ve spoken to says the only way I’ll ever be without pain is with a knee replacement. (Which I’m too young to do)
