Cleary was kicking us to death. And we were down 12, with the to’o try kinda being fluky. If anything our scramble d needs improving but tbh, we put on a super good fight tonight and we should all be proud as fans. Other league fan forums have seen the improvement and the media are starting to see it as well. Were challenging for the 8 this year man… and like I said in another thread, if we have a Foran / Fogarty, a semi decent halfback I think we challenge for the 4
Imagine is all we can do a five years younger Foran would be great but his days are numbered now

We competed and probably created the better chances

Mann's passes from lock first half were slow and bit off, didn't allow our backline to flow. When Hayward played this role, passes were much smoother and quick giving our back line more space

1st try wtf is salmon doing watching Curran make a tackle? He had ample opportunity to come in and finish the tackle off, instead he just stands and watches and reacts when it's too late. And to top off salmon touches the drop out and gives them a penalty. He just should not be in the 17.

Their 2nd try was flukey, came off their bad pass which scattered our defensive line otherwise they were not getting through.

Missed tackles mean nothing, we're bumping and slowing them down for others to come in and make the tackle. Missed tackle stats is a misnomer for us

Kiraz and tracey were immense but we do need an attacking fullback. Tracey isn't the answer long term

Hughes was fantastic again aside from his dropped ball, forward who made the most metres and pcm and penriths defense struggled to contain him

Baily Hayward, little man I take my hat off to you, busting your arse making tackles and your distribution with the ball is so fluid.
Good post, agree with everything except the Tracey comment. The way he accelerated into the corner to create space for Kiraz to score is exactly what we’ve been missing for ages, and what the best fullbacks do. Haven't seen enough of him yet but I give him at least a 50/50 chance of developing into a top 5 fullback if he stays fit and we keep playing like we are. Probably setting him up to fail here but he actually reminds me a lot of Edwards, really strong carries and good support play, looks likely to make a break whenever he gets a bit of space.

I thought Mann was slow in attack in the first half, his distribution was slow which meant those outside him had no room

We looked much better when Hayward was playing that role, quicker distribution gave the outside guys a bit more room

I'd go all out to sign Kodi Nikorima to a 2 year deal to play halfback until Woods and O'Neill are ready. His attack would create so many chances for our backs

We need more attack from our 7, Hutch doesn't have it and if we aren't going to use Sexton, Nikorima for 2 years could potentially unlock our attack

Was a shit game!!! panthers lucky to get the win. we did well for what we had not going to criticise the game. Next week we better fire up.
We created 6 or so line breaks in the first 65-70 minutes and really outplayed Penrith much of the time. Could not just “ice” any of those LB opportunities. Too many frustrating errors at critical times in good attacking positions. Just releasing all the pressure, we had built quite well. At a later stage in our team development we will convert these multiple chances in to points & win well. Again, we lost today’s game much in the same way we managed to somehow lose the Storm and Rabbits games. Good competitive effort with some good signs in strong defence, but too many errors. Need more creativity around the ruck. I really do think it’s time that we seriously start proactively developing O’Neill, now as our future HB. Unfortunately think O’Neil might be injured at the mo.

Burtons been with us long enough that hes no longer a former panther. The media needs to fuck off with all that fucking shit. Hes a bulldog! Say it as it is! They're all bulldogs players. NOT FORMER PANTHERS.
The story is so done to death and it’s not even remarkable. We have a WHOPPING 4 players from them. I’m not counting Tetevano since it was ages since he played for them and will unlikely play first grade for us.

We also have a former Panthers assistant coach. Since when did 4 players and an assistant coach signing to a rival over several years become such a big deal?! It’s been happening for decades. We lost 4 in one go to Parra ffs. Chooks took a few more a decade later. Big woop. The way Penrith and the media act like they’re the first club this has happened to is hilarious.

You know what’s even funnier? Check out Tigers squad and there’s probably twice as many former Panthers. Besides Critta and Kiks they wouldn’t have kept Burton or Salmon anyway. Burton because Luai and Salmon because Salmon lol.

Meanwhile, Tigs have Api, Staines, Naden and Turuva and Luai will be there next year.

Sending the ball wide was the only time we actually looked dangerous. Personally, we didn’t do it enough…It’s the only way to beat Penrith because they use a condensed defensive line and their speed to cut off the width but the system struggles when the opposition have the amount of speed we do.
We need to throw some balls back under because the oppo defence knows what’s coming when we go wode. Get Kiks steaming onto it back on the inside.

Two tries a piece and we didn’t even play well. Had some opportunities missed too with Xerriks forward pass (which was correctly ruled imo) and JAC’s kick straight to Edwards and Mahoney offside on that kick after making a break.
EVERYONE should remember these 3 chances, they were golden chances we should've iced against the defending 3 time premiers.

Really good assessment of the game. We just arent there yet.we need to throw more at the opposition if we want to win. We can't get a break wiith the refs or 50/50s and we aren't at the stage where we can influence the game or make own luck. The ref was poor IMO and the Pennies got the rub of the green as they do.

Imo whilst Hutch is doing the job CC has asked of him..it just isnt enough to compete and ask questions of these top teams.

Overall very happy with the enthusiasm and they gave it their best shot. It's not enough at this stage but a low scoring 6 point loss to Penrith is very admirable.

Part of the learning along the journey. We'll get there.

I've watched Tracey since he played for sharks. He's a very solid fullback, I still want to see that little bit of extra flair at fullback. Just not seeing it at the moment

How cant we be proud of that? We have seen some god awful bulldogs teams this last 7 years, this one tonight have gone to penrith, a game nobody tipped us to win, lost the pen count and restart count but stuck in there and had a real go at them. I love this group of players, yes we lack quality in some areas but the effort is actually outstanding, all epitomise a bulldog and what this club stands for.
Because it’s loser mentality. Last year has no bearing on this year. We should have won this game cleanly if we are all honest to ourselves.

It’s a shame that Mann didn’t get enough game time. He turned the ball on the inside very well. Surprised we didn’t score off it a few times.
Yeah I’m happy to see Hayward get some time but there is no reason Mann should be off for 50-60 minutes

Hayward was great at distributing at lock.

I'd rather leave him where he is at the moment, he's been doing a tremendous job since coming into 1st grade

A real bulldog, tiny but stubborn as fuck
I liked him at hooker in reserves too. He isn't scared of the gritty, rough stuff which is awesome.
