"Rather than look elsewhere for a short-term fix, Pay is happy to turn to the talent within his own ranks to replace the trio."

Yeah ok... any idea who this talent is, because I don't see much floating around

The worst part is we have a better half who is still off contract for next year in Wakeham and this move would just mean Wakeham doesn't get to play and develop and another club will poach him.

Why the hell did they re-sign Lewis before his deal expired if they planned on bringing in Reynolds a few months later? They couldn't be fucking things up more if they tried.

Like you said, the amount of smoke around this is massively concerning and I don't blame Pay, I blame the CEO and recruitment team for even letting things get this far. They should have said no the minute his name was brought up.
I swear it was written in the paper long ago that McGuire is impressed with Wakeham and wanted him... Watch us lose him.

Look at the stats. Storm were so successful because of the spine played together for so long there wasn’t much chopping and changing in the spine, which disrupts the combinations and set plays.
I say we play wakeham and averillo in the halves, be consistent with them, both young both talented and the more they play together the better they will gel and understand each other’s game. No more injured older halves. Wakeham and averillo will fix our whole halves problem for years to come.
But we do need a specialist hooker. We have Jmk who is really a 5/8 only just become a hooker but isn’t a specialist in that role. Katoa is a genuine hooker but hasn’t got a shot yet. Either give him a shot and keep Jmk as a utility or buy a genuine 80 minute hooker. I’d love to snatch Brandon smith from the storm!

I’d be pretty disappointed in our management has Josh is on the radar,
He was great for us in yesteryear but we really need to move on and either spend appropriately on a decent half or put some faith in either Wakeham or Avv
They kept emphasising about how important our juniors program is well to me this is the time to give them a fair shot.

@bradtalo (your post is f'd so I'll just reply like this)

For the right price, I don't mind it. I agree with anything more than 400k would be too much for us to pay. I'd feel a lot more comfortable with 350k. As a player he's a better 9 then what we have, he'd be the perfect utility and could cover in the halves if Foran went down (did a good job when Brooks was out for the Tigers, MOTM performances). The cherry on the cake for me is the good memories I have of him, being my favourite ever 6 for the club and imo was the heart and soul of our team (with Graham and Ennis). The only better off contract player that we'd have a reasonable chance to sign (by offering a big contract btw) would be Jake Friend. Unless we could snag a Brandon Smith on contract there just isn't many options (this is why missing out on Koroisau was significant).

I would re-sign Foran. He is the best half we have at the club.

Then I would re-sign Wakeham.

Coggs and Reynolds in nsw cup.

Swap lachlan Lewis with ado Carr
Reynolds 14, not NSW cup.

Doesn't need to come :grinning:
Other positions and players are needed beforehand and should be a priority, I agree. I'm just not against the move for the right price as long as we're also getting those other players.

The right price is not happening, like 200k max off the bench playing a Connor Watson type role. But even then he's a fucking biscuit and probably won't last.

Whatever we end up paying it's now very evident that it's the Bulldogs pushing for a Josh Reynolds return after hearing Dean Pay yesterday on the news talking up how much a quality player Reynolds is and how much experience he'd bring "to any side"

Forget Reynolds, couldn't win the title when we had him in his prime.

Lets make a play for Wallabies, Noah Lolesio & Jordan Petaia.

Lets grab Ado Carr also and a speedy hooker who runs from dummy half when he sees a chance.

That's where I would be spending the clubs money for 2021.

With Thompson in the front row our forwards should be able to at least hold their own.

With Wakeham, Lolesio, Averillo, Petaia, Ado-Carr, R.Smith & DWZ in the backline, we just need a coach to say get the ball to the backs and let them attack at every opportunity.

At least this will change our style of play which has been defensive and robotic since 2013.

With Foran returning to the starting line up this is a signing that makes absolutely no sense. Either in the short or long term.

The only way it'd work is if he were to play hooker. But considering his injuries would that position be best suited for him? Considering the amount of tackling?

A fit Reynolds I think could be a relevation at hooker. On low money. For the rest of the year. Maybe?

However, if we're really looking to sign him surely it's to bring him back in his preferred position. And in that case all of the good work at the club will have gone out the window

Pay brings in Reynolds and Pay should be shown the door IMMEDIATELY!!

Thanks for the memories Josh, but if we want to get out of this league hell we are in we need to move forward.

reynolds??.... ffs
The only thing I would add is anyone else in management that agrees with pay should be punted as well.

Fittler and Joey have talked him up numerous times too. It seems everyone rates him except his own coach and club.

Exactly. I'm more mad at management for not shutting it down the minute it was suggested than I am at the coach who was out of his mind to request it in the first place.

At the end of the day management have the final say and should be more shrewd when it comes to recruitment. It seems like they give Pay free reign to recruit as many bench players, cast offs and Reserve Graders as he wants from other clubs and don't have a plan or the ability to address key areas.

Once again, to try and recruit Reynolds but not lock up Wakeham would be sheer madness.
