Yeah but anything further happen with that story, i honestly don't remember?
Not sure, I think the emails thing was bullshit and that's why it went no further.

That's why I'm thinking that inticing Cleary to cancel a contract might get interesting.

Not to mention what if Tigers dig their heels in and say "Nope, we want you to coach Tigers". What's Cleary going to do then? Deliberately fuck up so they sack him? Sabotage the club till he gets sacked? Not turn up for work?

If that was to happen I reckon Tigers would lawyer up and have a clear case to start suing Panthers and Cleary.

Brent Read wrote a good article in the Australian today stating that Cleary has always based his career on ethics and integrity, and if he was to effectively jump ship on the Tigers, it would destroy all those values he has built over his career.

Gould needs to learn that NO means NO. You can't just get your own way with everyone everytime.

...

I wonder if anyone at the Tigers has a Cleary clause in their contract??

Ohhhh this needs to be read.. scatching article that calls Gould out as a liar and (I didn't realise), just how many lies had been spun. I knew about the 10 odd year 5 year plan, but when you read below you come to realise the magnitude and sheer number of lies Gould has spun. It's damning at best.

The Penrith Panthers won’t win a premiership whilst Phil Gould remains at the helm

Jarryd Hackett August 7, 2018 - 9:25 am

During his eight-year tenure at the Penrith Panthers, Phil ‘Gus’ Gould has proven himself to be the most dishonest man in the history of this great game we call rugby league. Gould has found himself in the headlines once again after it was announced overnight that Anthony Griffin had been sacked as head coach of the Penrith outfit with just four matches to be played before finals football arrives.

The most peculiar part about this situation however is the fact that Griffin currently has the Panthers sitting fifth on the ladder with 13 wins from 20 starts this season. With a top four berth on the cards and with a 60 percent win rate since joining the club in 2016, just why oh why was Griffin ‘hooked’ so close to finals time?

It was just last month when Phil Gould told audiences on Channel Nine’s flagship rugby league program – 100 percent footy – that coach Anthony Griffin’s job was safe until at least the end of the 2020 NRL season. Griffin had originally put pen to paper on a three-year extension last October.

Gould slammed the media reports at the time that claimed Griffin was subjected to an internal review during Origin II weekend.

“It’s totally incorrect, it’s another example of a journalist taking a titbit of information and trying to connect the dots to gain his own information. It’s totally wrong and totally misleading. Griffin will remain with the club until 2020.”

With these comments, Gould doesn’t just prove himself to be a liar, but he disrespects the game, the fans, the Penrith club and obviously the journalists who run these stories – which are shot down by Gould at the time of print – but are later proven to be factual, leaving Gould with proverbial mud on his face.

It’s not the first time in the past 12 months Gould has lied to the media, Penrith members and fans of the sport. Just last September, Gould held a press conference as he promised Matt Moylan would be remaining at Penrith amidst rumours he was unhappy and wanting to leave. Come November, Moylan had officially put pen to paper with the Cronulla Sharks.

In 2016, Corey Payne sensationally quit his role as Chief Executive of the Penrith club amidst a reported feud with Gould. Gould would later debunk these claims by stating “Payne resigned to study overseas. The two weeks (he spent) in China wet his appetite, I always wondered if this job was big enough for him.” Ultimately these claims were proven untrue as Payne was hired by Woolworths Group as Store Operations Executive shortly after his resignation.

Gould has even lied about his own standing in the game. On January 17, 2015, Gould revealed he was planning to step down from his current role. “My aim is to get to a point where my job becomes redundant and the club moves on, and we’re getting close to that”. Two months later, he re-signed with the club on a long-term deal.

In 2013, Gould denied a falling out with star centre Michael Jennings had exploded prior to the representative back being granted a release to join the Sydney Roosters on a big money contract. Jennings would go on to win a premiership with Easts that very season. It was also just a year prior that Gould lost club legend Luke Lewis under similar circumstances with the veteran utility forward going on to win a premiership with Cronulla in 2016.

Upon his arrival in Penrith, Gould promised Petero Civoniceva, perhaps at the time the greatest forward of the modern era, that he’d have a job for life at the club. Just three short months later, he was playing out the remainder of his career at the Brisbane Broncos and hasn’t stepped foot back at the foot of the mountains since.

And as he continues to move on key pieces, Penrith Panthers supporters continue to grow more and more restless. In an unstable working environment, the 60-year-old’s five-year plan (which was put into place eight years ago) has unravelled. Since Gould has arrived at the club, a total number of 95 roster changes has occurred – the most in the league.

At some point, surely, you’ve got to stop building and start consolidating?

Not including these 95 players is the fact that Gould has also gone through five coaches in his time at the club (equal first with the New Zealand Warriors over this period). Will coach number six even be game enough to step foot into a club run by such an obsessive man such as Gould?

Of these 95 roster changes aforementioned, over 20 players whom have left the club over this period have done so having been released early from their contracts including: Luke Lewis, Petero Civoniceva, Elijah Taylor, James Segeyaro, Matt Moylan, James Roberts, Te Maire Martin, Jamie Soward, Peta Hiku, Jamal Idris, Michael Jennings, Lachlan Coote, Bryce Cartwright, Leilani Latu, Mitch Rein and Michael Gordon.

Of these players; Coote, Martin, Roberts and Lewis have gone on to play in or win a grand final. Not to mention two coaches have also been released under contract early by Gould with Ivan Cleary parting ways with the club in October 2015 just a month before the club was set to return to pre-season training and just a year prior to being crowned Dally M coach of the year.

And now it’s Anthony Griffin’s turn to be in the cross hairs of Gould, being sacked with two years left to run on his contract and just one win outside the top four.

Phil Gould is a compulsive liar. I’d absolutely loathe having him ‘run’ my club. The game doesn’t deserve it, the fans don’t deserve it, the media don’t deserve it and most importantly we just don’t need Gould’s rubbish in our game. I really feel for Penrith members and supporters having their own Donald Trump like character taking their club hostage.

If one more journalist suggests Trent Barrett &/or John Cartwright are coming to Panthers next season, I will scream. Read my lips: ITS NOT HAPPENING. It’s never been suggested. It’s never been considered. Apologies to fans of both clubs. I don’t know who starts this stuff.

This is a tweet from Gould just days before Griffin’s release. Will another one of his lies emerge?

Funny how **** and some of the Jurnos who appear on NRL 360 with him were determined to make our club look as bad as possible for sacking Hassler.
But are now praising Gould for sacking Griffin, with Penrith well entrenched in the 8, also with a great roster and looking good for the future.
How I now wish SL remained as a stand alone competition.

The head coach has to motivate all those around him.
What is the point in keeping someone, or forcing them to stay, who doesn't want to be there?

There goes Panthers coaching cap for a few years.... and any chance of signing Cleary.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal Griffin’s manager Wayne Beavis will be demanding a full payout of $1.6 million for the remainder of this season and the next two years. He was on an annual salary of $700,000 before being punted on Monday. There was no early payout clause in his contract, which was signed less than 12 months ago.

The Panthers would also be forced to pay $1 million per season to convince Ivan Cleary to leave the Wests Tigers and coach his son Nathan at the Panthers. Then the Wests Tigers would want compensation of around $400,000 to release Cleary.

All up it would cost the Panthers $3 million, a huge strain on a football club that already lost more than $4 million last year.

In addition, Justin Pascoe (Tigers CEO) has put the nail in the coffin of a Cleary return before his contract at the Tigers is up, stating they will fight "tooth and nail", to ensure that Cleary remains at the club.

Q. Justin, it has been a big 24 hours in NRL coaching circles. Can you give us an update where things are at with Westts Tigers and Ivan Cleary?

A. Sure. So Ivan Cleary came to me late yesterday [Monday] afternoon and informed me in a discussion that he had been approached by Penrith — that they were keen to get him to go out there and coach. We had a really open and frank discussion around that. Since then, we met with Ivan this morning and we were very adamant in that meeting that there is really no option other than to continue on as Head Coach of the Wests Tigers. Certainly, we engaged in a contract nearly 18 months ago now under good faith and we expect that contract uploads and continues on.

Q. So if Ivan does ask for a release, will the club grant that release?

A. No. As we expressed to Ivan this morning, the position of the club — and it's a really strong position — is that the club is going to fight for this. Under no circumstances will we be granting Ivan Cleary a release. He has got a contract with this club until 2020, we're building something special here and we want that to continue.

Q. Why wouldn't the club grant him a release?

A. Because we're not going to be pushed aside or bullied or railroaded by anyone. This club, and myself, have to make decisions that are in the best interests of the Wests Tigers and, first and foremost, our fans, our Members and our stakeholders. Giving our Head Coach to a rival club is not a decision that is in the best interest of the fans or stakeholders.

Q. It's been an uncertain day for Wests Tigers Members and fans. Do you have a message for them?

A. I'm really disappointed that they've had to go through all the speculation. I'm bitterly disappointed that a rival club has decided that it's appropriate practice to try and poach a coach with two-and-a-half years left on his contract. My message is very simple: Ivan has been a terrific coach, he has shown great character in what we're trying to build here and we are going to fight tooth and nail. This is a really strong, proud club with a lot of rich history and it's a very different club than what it was previously. We're not going to let anyone come in and just poach our Coach without a fight and we're going to fight tooth and nail to keep Ivan. We're not going to release him. The club is a really proud club, as I said, and we're in a strong position to fight this all the way.

Summary: Fuck off Gould you shifty ****, if you attempt to take our coach, or entice him to terminate his contract with us, we aren't afraid to sue your arses.

I hope everyone else pulls out forcing the Panther pricks to have to suffer through Des Hasler for a few years, which causes fans to get rid of Phil Gould, and then Hasler to tear apart yet another club.

Of course the Tigers are publicly going to play hardball.. but reality is if Ivan Cleary wants to leave, the Tigers wont force him to stay.. no club would Make a coach stay against his will it would be a guarenteed failure on field...

The tigers will just try to milk the panthers for as much coin as possible through compensation if Ivan wants to leave early
