Corey Waddell
Trent Barrett has struck his first blow against former club Manly by signing one of their players to a long-term deal.
The incoming Canterbury coach will reunite with back-rower Corey Waddell at the Bulldogs for the next three years. Waddell will get an immediate chance to impress his new teammates when Canterbury play the Sea Eagles on Friday night.
Barrett had enticed Waddell to Manly before his split with the club having coached the back-rower in the lower grades at Penrith.
Waddell played 23 games for the Sea Eagles in his debut season last year and the 23-year-old has featured in 10 matches this year.
He joins Nick Cotric and Blake Green as the Bulldogs’ new recruits heading into next year.
The Bulldogs also expect Newcastle assistant David Furner to join Barrett’s coaching staff after he was over-looked for the head coaching job at St George Illawarra.
