Opinion Joseph O'Neill should be our 7

Let’s see if O’Neill can build on this and put pressure on Sexton via his performances in NSW Cup. If we don’t give him a shot teams like Parra would see him as a good replacement for Dylan Brown if he was to leave

Extremely underwhelmed by both Hutchison and Sexton. In his limited time last week O'Neill looked more a skillful natural halfback than either of these duds.

Mitchell Woods ready next year hopefully.

Oloapu still a chance when he comes back also

Terrible post.

I like O’Neill but he played against children last week. Sexton is our halfback and an nrl experienced 7. If he didn’t have his best ever game in a trial that was also his first game in 6 months I’m ok with that.

Woods won’t be ready next year. To think he will be shows you don’t have an idea on how hard the nrl is compared to youth football. Woods has to dominate Flegg and show he can step up to NSW cup before even being a consideration for NRL selection.

KO is long odds to ever play against and hasn’t played for 18 months yet you think he can just slot in. If he came back it would be in Flegg.

One of the worst posts I’ve seen for a while.

Give it 8 weeks and we can reserve judgement. I'm sure Jason Taylor doesn't want to reveal his hand just for a trial match. Don't forget what we did to a full strength broncos team last year.
I am praying this is the case. I was telling myself that all game.

F..king terrible reply buddy. Can you read a date ? If you can you'd see my original post was like early last year - way before Oloapu was written off for good. Didn't you know that Gus admitted to this recently at the 90th anniversary dinner. Also for your information it's this year, not next year we're talking about LOL. O'Neill played virtually the whole season in NSW Cup last year - against men, not boys so he's used to it. I wasn't expecting Woods to start this year in first grade but by the end of the year he's a hope when almost 19 AFTER playing many games of NSW Cup and hopefully dominating. If our coaching staff weren't confident he was very close to NRL ready he wouldn't be in our top 30 now would he ? There's been a number of players play first grade at 18 (eg Brad Fittler) including Lachlan Galvin last year and have you heard how he went ?. You don't think Woods can tackle or be tackled by guys 110kgs or so ? You don't think there's plenty of guys in lower grades that size seriously ? One of the Seve brothers who left us for the Roosters is 124kgs. There's plenty of guys well over six foot and 100kgs at 18 and 19.

Sexton never set the world on fire last year either and that's why a lot of commentators still say we're short a number 7 cabapble of us winning a comp. Yesterday he looked like he's done nothing to improve in the whole off season. Every one of our 5th tackle options was terrible. It's way more than just being rusty. He's f..king average and that's highly likely why we haven't re-signed him yet and why we chased Hunt. We're obviously still keen to see if we can get someone better

So was I! Having said that, what was causing me serious pains was those silly penalties and handling errors that are still present...I was hoping that was part of the bluff...

It’s just knee jerk to put in O’Neil who showed nothing when he came on yesterday. Sexton is our 7 and had a bad game but he’s not getting dropped for round 1. He can easily turn it around and the game plan was shit yesterday so might not even be his fault. We barely had a crack at them in the first half and let the game get away. Need some
More strike out wide and need to learn how to get Kikau and Preston one on one with defenders. We were kicking for field position all first half when we could have put in some more attacking kicks and contest . So many things which can be fixed by changing the game plan

Sitili wil add a lot to our bench. Hopefully he is good for round 1. Option of putting him at centre also and pushing Xerri or critta to the wing if you really wanna get crafty

I think oneill would kill it in first grade with better players around him hes our jarome Hughes up and comer hopefully, definitely worth a shot but who for fb??

You will get used to that from @bradtalo

He's the number 1 scapegoat.
100% Everyone wants Burton to run more and the bloke never really does. Sexton runs plenty and no one supports him, yet Sexton was shit haha

If we are not going to look outside our squad for another HB why not give Tracey a go. Halves is his natural, preferred position. But I would keep Sexton and move Burton to left centre which is his Penrith GF position and the position he represented in SOO and for Australia.
FB Wilson
Wings Xerri and Montoya (or one of the younger ones)
Centre Burton and Crichton
Halves Tracey and Sexton
I reckon that combo might just open our attack.

Aside from the play from the scrum, which was a cracker, I didn't see anyone run any plays. From the kick off it was the KISS principle, don't show anything that we have rehearsed, just ruck it up and kick on the 5th. With Sexton taking most of the kicks, 11 compared Burton's 5 plus Mahoney and Tracey 1 each (O'Neil had 3 kicks in his minutes).

A very simple game plan designed to get the rust out, have some contact, test the game fitness and give the maybe's a chance to show their skills.

Just what trials are for.

Spot on. Best thing I’ve read in 48 hours

Can't wait to see the back of Burton, hopefully these kids are ready before his contract is up so they can release him to the Tigersm
He'll be re-signed unless he wants overs

And the amount of errors in the last 20. Should have been given the half to get into the game. Hutchinson will start the year at 7.
So they dropped him last year we then made a run and you think CC will put him back at 7, your dreaming!

He's the number 1 scapegoat.
I’d rather risk the 27 club while being a celebrity heroine addict than wear our 7. Due to one unnamed player, it’s the most cursed position in rugby league. 3 try assists does not even keep you safe if the unnamed player has a bad game, it’s all your fault to the kennel and the coaching staff. You’ll be looking for a new contract elsewhere before you know it.
