Opinion Joseph O'Neill should be our 7

Today was mainly about getting the defense right.
Having said that there is not much today that Sexton did that Flanagan wouldn't be capable of.
I'm sure Sexton will improve week b y week, like he did last year.
O'Neill is not ready.
I'm much more concerned about Burton and his complete inability to get his mind on the job.
Sexton is 10x the player Flanno will ever be and has played half the time Flanno has.

Extremely underwhelmed by both Hutchison and Sexton. In his limited time last week O'Neill looked more a skillful natural halfback than either of these duds.

Mitchell Woods ready next year hopefully.

Oloapu still a chance when he comes back also
NO

I'm not disrespectful but the game with Broncos was no way near to expectations
Look guys this is the best 17 and the same spine from last year, week in week out and I expected more decent football this is not good enough
CC and Gus the prossfessor should start looking into NSW cup O'Neil and other spark players to really grind and bring consistent players selection to meet the standards required.
If we really want to contest the top 8
Seriously concerned die hard doggies
Some may say it's too early give them time BUT remember NRL is a different arena this year's comp is gonna be so tough

O'Neill doesn't have the size yet to handle first grade

He would get run over defensively

Give him a chance to develop and build himself up in NSW Cup for a year at least. He is still very young

No more sacrificing young guys before they are ready. That's why we have recruited experience in most positions, to see us through the next couple of years until these young guys are ready for NRL
Do you really understand what you saying or read the game
Was Thurston so young to pull on the blue and white jersey
O'Neil is a consistent footballer all he needs is more game time under his belt and will see from there.

Correct

Ciro will pick the same starting 13 for round one. We looked really fit from the stand, just really rusty. I wouldn't take much from it other than blowing out the cobwebs. Hopefully though it's another nail in the coffin of smallball. Surely you only do that when you've got no choice.

For round one I'd get Todd on the bench straight away. We need a point of difference somewhere. Also pick DSF on the bench and I'd start Curran ahead of Mann. Sitili also on the bench if fit.

Sexton won't last half the season playing like that

The donkies proved, via the ref gifting them so much possession with 6 agains and penalties, that if the dogs don't tire out a big forward pack that big forward pack will take its toll. Yesterday Burton & Sexton failed badly on the game control front, our FB (plus our backup fullback) cant catch bombs & our 1st string hooker just didn't rise to the occasion. Its a trial so I don't expect any team changes for R1 but I do expect a massive change in our spine's performance.

I liked Hutchinson and Sexton last week. Different story this week.

Hutchinson ticks more boxes for mine at this stage and Oloapu can stay in Reggie’s for the year when he returns. Needs constant game time and our Reggie’s will be a strong side for him to build his confidence in.
Hutchinson has zero attack. Not ideal for a halfback.

People keep complaining about Burton like they do Gus. Those same people want Burton gone and guess what if we have someone ready to play the 6 and take this team to the next level Gus is the man to move Burton on before his contract finishes. That’s one of the things he does well.
I’m sick of watching Burton have brain fades (as a spine player), tackle with his fingers and slowly shovel the ball along the backline without straightening the attack (kills all the space out wide).

Other than his kicking (long) and his occasional run he is average with what looks like no mongrel

Can a halves combo of Sexton & O'Neill work?

Have to agree with all your points.

3 of the spine are honest toilers who can do a job when they are performing at their best but not elite in their positions (at this stage of their careers anyway)....our 1, 7 and 9.

I love Burton's huge potential but last night he continued his trait of just cruising.

It could be that he is a big reason why we seemingly get so bogged down with our attack. He is unable, or unwilling, to put in an 80 minute performance to make himself stand out as our playmaker.

Ok only a trial but that kind of competitiveness and ownership of the position, is mostly inherent in his peers and the rival top 5/8ths.
Burton just doesn't step up tho he is bursting with natural talent, size and athleticism. This spills over to his goal kicking as well.

Maybe he needs to be taken in hand for specialised coaching/mentoring (whatever) and also relieved of the goal kicking so he can concentrate on what he is lacking as a play-making 5/8.

Just sincerely hoping we don't see another year of this potential superstar achieving only 70% of the x factor and game breaking impact he could have in the NRL for us (and himself).

Would love to see him break the shackles and be recognised as a top notch superstar of the position but he seems to need to put in a lot more work and confidence to make that happen.

Im sick of Burton's shit, every week he turns up to the game like hes got a hangover, he always looks way too unfit to even play 10 minutes, can't tackle to save his life, has no clue how to straighten the attack, putrid goal kicking. What happened to the old Burton that was an absolute unit that couldn't be stopped.
