The donkies proved, via the ref gifting them so much possession with 6 agains and penalties, that if the dogs don't tire out a big forward pack that big forward pack will take its toll. Yesterday Burton & Sexton failed badly on the game control front, our FB (plus our backup fullback) cant catch bombs & our 1st string hooker just didn't rise to the occasion. Its a trial so I don't expect any team changes for R1 but I do expect a massive change in our spine's performance.
Have to agree with all your points.
3 of the spine are honest toilers who can do a job when they are performing at their best but not elite in their positions (at this stage of their careers anyway)....our 1, 7 and 9.
I love Burton's huge potential but last night he continued his trait of just cruising.
It could be that he is a big reason why we seemingly get so bogged down with our attack. He is unable, or unwilling, to put in an 80 minute performance to make himself stand out as our playmaker.
Ok only a trial but that kind of competitiveness and ownership of the position, is mostly inherent in his peers and the rival top 5/8ths.
Burton just doesn't step up tho he is bursting with natural talent, size and athleticism. This spills over to his goal kicking as well.
Maybe he needs to be taken in hand for specialised coaching/mentoring (whatever) and also relieved of the goal kicking so he can concentrate on what he is lacking as a play-making 5/8.
Just sincerely hoping we don't see another year of this potential superstar achieving only 70% of the x factor and game breaking impact he could have in the NRL for us (and himself).
Would love to see him break the shackles and be recognised as a top notch superstar of the position but he seems to need to put in a lot more work and confidence to make that happen.
