Very true.SJ is almost a certainty… having a half with a consistently good passing and kicking game is the difference between winning and losing games.. SJ has that and he can still run the ball dangerously.
While it’s well documented we need to bolster our forwards, there’s sweet FA available so we may as well focus on getting our spine and outside backs right. Theres plenty of good forwards coming off contract next year..
If I remember correctly, that's one off 20k per player added to the cap?Panthers also have a lot of SOO bonus' to pay, surely they're running out of money now?
Johnson won't be hear next yr, will be the RaidersSJ is almost a certainty… having a half with a consistently good passing and kicking game is the difference between winning and losing games.. SJ has that and he can still run the ball dangerously.

I’m blown away by the fact he’s only 25, for some reason I had him close to 30, feels like he’s been around forever.James Fisher-Harris has agreed to stay at Penrith on a monster new deal
Penrith prop James Fisher-Harris is on the verge of becoming one of the highest-paid forwards in the game after agreeing terms on a four-year extension with the Panthers that will pay him up to $3.5 million.
Fisher-Harris is yet to put pen to paper on the new contract but it is understood his manager Darryl Mather has finalised terms with the club and the deal will be finalised in coming weeks.
Fisher-Harris’ retention comes with the New Zealand prop in the hottest form of his career. The 25-year-old is among the leaders in the Dally M medal and if not the best prop in the sport, he is in the conversation.
His pay packet now reflects as much. The Australian understands that rival clubs have asked the question of Mather in recent days and been told that Fisher-Harris has agreed to a new deal with the Panthers, ending their hope of potentially poaching him at the end of next season.
His new contract caps a stunning signing drive by Penrith that has led to Nathan Cleary, Jarome Luai, Isaah Yeo and Stephen Crichton all agreeing new deals.
All told, the spree has cost the Panthers in excess of $10 million. It has been money well spent if the NRL ladder is anything to go by – Penrith have led the competition for most of the year, largely off the back of Fisher-Harris’ barnstorming charges.
After Cleary, Fisher-Harris was arguably the most crucial piece of the puzzle given the way he has played over the past two years. No player has been more responsible for laying the platform for Cleary and Luai to weave their magic.
It is understood his new deal is worth more than $800,000 a season, remarkable given the current climate and the uncertainty over the salary cap from 2023.
The Panthers’ mega signing spree has made life difficult on other fronts. Backrower Kurt Capewell remains off contract and is yet to make call over his future.
There had been talk that Penrith had given up hope of keeping him, although it is understood they remain in the mix and their biggest challenge is now coming from the Brisbane Broncos.
North Queensland were also interested in the versatile Maroons centre but they believe their odds of signing the Queensland utility are lengthening and are ready to begin exploring alternative options.
Capewell is in camp with the Maroons and insists his only focus is on levelling the State of Origin series.
“I am trying to keep it out of my mind space a the moment and let my manager deal with it,” Capewell said. “He is more than capable.”
Meanwhile, the Warriors have finalised a deal to bring Chad Townsend back to the club for the remainder of this season. The Sharks premiership-winning halfback has played his last game for the club that he grew up supporting after securing a release to join the Warriors immediately.
Townsend’s first game for the Warriors will be against the Dragons next Friday before facing the Sharks in round 17.
The Warriors have paid around $250,000 to take over the remainder of Townsend’s 2021 contract. In effect, the Sharks will shave the six-figures from their salary cap to spend elsewhere.
The Sharks stopped short of including a clause that blocked Townsend from playing against them in coming weeks. The Warriors have signed Townsend to play the remainder of this season – the same club he played with in 2014-2015 – before linking with the Cowboys on a three-year deal from 2022.
The Sharks are scheduled to play the Warriors twice – in round 17 and round 21.
He should've been the target last season and I said so at the time. Panthers were under cap pressure and we stupidly took Hetherington off their hands to free up 300k on their cap. With JFH signing a big contract, Fox reported Panthers might struggle to re-sign Leota. Maybe he could be a target? What’s the thoughts on him up front?
Hopefully learnt from past mistakes and go after him this time mate.He should've been the target last season and I said so at the time. Panthers were under cap pressure and we stupidly took Hetherington off their hands to free up 300k on their cap.
2022?Well it's Kikau to the dogs then I guess
Considering they re-signed Spencer L earlier in the season surely they can't keep their other front rower/s.Jfh on $800k klem $950-$1 mill go knights lol
