Geez the whole thing sounds boring as hell just reading about the trial. Couldn't imagine how mind-numbing it would be having to sit in on it day after day after day.
Hopefully the right verdict is reached either way, only those 3 involved know what that would be. Even then probably not if they were all full of grog.

Ridiculous... this in itself is grounds to vacate any guilty verdict if it is forthcoming. The judge has to ask the jury to return with either a verdict or an acceptance that they are hung.

OK. The judge here is completely wrong to do this. Though it is unlikely, what if this drags through until late next week... will the judge backtrack? Of course they will, and ask the jury to return their outcome. So why say "take as long as required"? This is wrong.

It sounds to me like some jurors are trying to work over two or more dissenters. And the judge is sure to understand this to be the case. It's fine to try and work over the dissenters, but not after so many days of deliberation.

It's not OK to try and wear jurors down so they just give in so that they are done with their obligation.

Ok. Do you really believe the judge will allow the jury to continue deliberating until late into next week? What about the week after? For a case like this? Judge is wrong to use those words. This isn't a teacher encouraging students.

Sounds like the jury is hung again.
However there must be a big majority one way or the other.
The judge providing 34 pages of instructions and allowing more time must be hopefully the jury can deliver a verdict.

They must be close to a verdict, if it was evenly split there is no way it would still be going. I'd still be surprised if they found him guilty beyond any doubt.

Jury gone home for the weekend. Clearly hung, the judge will dismiss them if they can't reach a verdict next week.

It has to be a mistrial... in which case, my understanding is that that one verdict is irrelevant.

Now the fireworks begin over NRL no fault standdown.

The jury has written another note to say they have revisited the evidence and they are “firm and resolute”, a unanimous verdict is not possible. #DeBelin #Sinclair @9NewsSyd
