Jack de Belin has taken the extraordinary step of launching legal action against the ARL Commission (ARLC) over his playing ban.
Documents seen by Foxsports.com.au list both de Belin and the Dragons as applicants against the ARLC and the NRL, however it’s understood de Belin and his legal team — Pikes & Verekers — have commenced the legal proceedings off their own bat.
De Belin will appear in the Federal Court of Australia at 2pm on Thursday.
De Belin to fight NRL ban
De Belin was stood down by NRL CEO Todd Greenberg last week under the game’s ‘no fault stand down’ policy, after pleading not guilty to allegations of sexual assault relating to an incident in Wollongong before Christmas.
The 27-year-old is still allowed to train with the club, but will not feature for the Dragons as part of the new policy.
Last night on NRL 360, Dragons team-mate James Graham admitted the playing roster had been affected by the saga surrounding their star lock.

“As a group we’ve tried not to focus on it, but when you see the newspaper and the news headlines most days for two-and-a-half, three months, it’s hard not to come up in conversation or in thought,” Graham told NRL 360.
“I’d be lying if that was the case, but I don’t think it’s going to be the focal point of our season.

“We’ve lost a player that is irreplaceable, I think, but the coaching staff are working hard about how we’re going to combat that.
“We’ve got Korbin Sims sitting out the first two rounds as well, but I’ve got a strong belief that the players that come in are going to thrive and fulful that role.
“We saw Jacob Host on the weekend and Josh Kerr in the All Stars game play really well so there have been some opportunities that have been created through misfortune for others.”
